Thread: If Dissidia were to be released in arcades...?

Default If Dissidia were to be released in arcades...?

What if SE decided to release the Arcade Mode part of the game as a standalone game for arcades? I would certainly like to see that in an actual arcade; they'll probably have to change some things around, though, but that's okay, I'll still enjoy it. Would you like to see an arcade coin-op machine version of the game?
    Is that your final answer?

Ignoring Necronopticous' observation and assuming we live either in Japan or its now 1992 but arcades have modern machines...

I think it would be fun, especially if you could hook your PSP to it and use your own stats. I would also love for the game to take a chapter out of the SoulCal2 arcade machine and have a campaign mode that uses your ghosts for players to battle against when playing the game normally.

I would have to wonder what kind of layout the arcade machine would use for battle... perhaps it could use a modified Soul Calibur or Street Fighter game machine, and for two players, two separate screens...

I would also like to see out-of-breath "continue?" countdown screens, and save the falling down for a "game over," as well as recovery actions for retries, similar to those in Street Fighter IV.

I agree with Wolf Kanno. Utilizing ghost cards of "top players" at the arcade would really increase the drive to play this game in the arcade.

Maybe they could actually print the "ghost cards" onto a real card that you can use that could store your characters data, the same way Initial D Arcade Stage does. And they could sell ghost cards of other characters.

I do think they'd have to add a few more characters for the official arcade release, to make up for the lack of most of the game content.

Well, on the PSP's Arcade Mode, all 20 main characters, including the villains, are playable at start, so that would probably take care of the extra characters thing...

An arcade is a place where you play coin-op video games, as well as other games such as pinball, skeeball, and a whole bunch of other games.

Because the camera view on PSP was over-the-shoulder as opposed to 'traditional' fighting game view of side-on, I think the Tekken 5 machine layout would suit it best (though T5 was side-on). Each player has their own individual screen/machine as opposed to sharing one and they sit across from each other face-to-face with the two machines in between.

It took up a lot of space in our arcades though. And it was also bad for arcade etiquette because you'd have to get up, walk to the next aisle, re-locate the machine you were sitting across from and hope the guy is still there to say "good game".

    What's an ar-

Wait, that's been done already. Twice.

Anyhoo, I haven't played Dissidia much but from a business standpoint it seems like SE would have to have pretty strong feelings that it would be popular as hell. They would upgrade all the graphics and such (this is SE after all), and would need two screens on the thing somehow to do VS. with other people. Just seems like something that they would do if they felt they could make money from it, but it would not be worth the initial investment. On a personal note, I'd much rather play most fighting games than Dissidia (based on some time with a friends PSP), so I think the arcade competition in Japan would not make Dissidia worth the quarters.
Boy am I an unfunny ass.
