    I'm not so sure Town Twinkles will be alive by then! Poor Celes is doing everything for the lazy soldiers, and she was unhappy when I started - I'm pretty sure she's going to snap soon! No migrants want to come either - I just got a message that said no migrants would ever consider going to a death trap like Town Twinkles, or something similar! Oh no

    EDIT: Very little action has happened so far. Sir Rantzien I has been content thus far, but I fear he might get angry without tribute!

    For now, these will be the tales of a poor little dwarf named Celes. Celes is the only dwarf who can actually do anything, so I had to give her every task. She was very close to snapping! She'd mine 3 tiles, then plant a seed, then move a bed, then go drink. The crazy life.

    Poor Celes, working away to build another barrack for the military dwarves, so they can be close to the gates should attack happen! That may come in handy........


    Soon after, as she's the only working dwarf, she became the mayor. Plans for a coup to overthrow the vicious warlord Rantzien in place, her move much improved. Plus, she now has nobles quarters. Sweeeeeet.

    She then got re-elected literally 5 minutes later, which made her even happier. Good thing, since now she's back to building a huge new dining hall. As soon as it was built, there was a puppy-spolsion. Though luckily, not thermonuclear.

    Things seemed peaceful. The animals made dirty animal love (god, you wouldn't believe the number of animals there are in the Z menu!), the warriors fought and drank themselves into happy stupor, and Celes settled down in the strawberry patch.

    But then, we got not one ambush. Not even two ambushes. But THREE ambushes. In a row. Triple ambush.

    The new military quarters came in handy. They were just sparring in there as the goblins stormed the bridge. They were just outside the gates as the warriors, lead by the gallant Sir Rantzien I, came out for some whoop ass.

    Sir Rantzien I was so mighty that he smacked a goblin into a wall. Now, it's not a far distance, but the goblin split up into several pieces, from the force. It was pretty damn sweet. Just a warm up, for Sir Rantzien!

    More to come once we actually get some goddamn migrants!

    I agree with Necro. Your graphic packs are stupid. ASCII is epic, especially when a dragon sets your alcohol stores on fire, and then BOOM! Everything blows.

    I've played with ASCII but I just prefer Dystopian Rhetoric's tileset to everything.

    I honestly wouldn't be able to play ASCII. Not just because I don't think it's pretty, but because I literally can't even find the dwarves on them. My eyesight isn't THAT good!

    I actually really like this tileset. xD And it's even better when you run it with stone sense.

    ASCII is fine for people who have been playing roguelikes forever, or people who have been playing games so long that they used to play text-based adventure games on DOS. But for people who aren't used to that sort of thing, why go to the effort of learning what every ugly thing means and figuring out what it means when an E is fighting an e when there is a better alternative?

    Like Paul I have played with ASCII but I just dislike it. It's less intuitive. It's less clear. It's immensely ugly. I do not want to look at it. So it's not like it's even a compromise, less so still for Jess, because the tileset is superior in every way. It conveys information more easily and rapidly than ASCII, you don't have to spend as long learning how to 'read' the game as you do having to learn the UI, and as was stated in a current thread on the topic on bay12 just a day or two ago;

    I see where you're coming from, but I just can't get behind it since the graphical tilesets currently available are impossibly ugly.

    I'm not sure what you mean by the ASCII being ugly. Sure, the default Curses font is ugly (and criminally rectangular) but there are really beautiful alternatives out there.

    Lamonda had never played an ASCII game before this. Subconsciously parsing the symbols was not really a problem for her at all. Honestly, I'm a lot more confused looking your guys' pictures since the tileset does not even solve what you are claiming is the problem--I still see "g" and "X" and "o" and arrows and weird unexplained graphics in your menu. At its current state, it just seems like it's exacerbating the problem.

    I'm literally just leaving this to run for ages. There's nothing I can do besides ward off ambushes, butcher animals, and wait for migrants! I'm gonna have to take TT for like, 3 years.

    Thanks! As it turns out, Jiro actually was only a wrestler as opposed to a Champ, so I was able to de-enlist him just in time and put him to use, but yeah. There's not much I can do with two dwarves, one of which without any real skills!
