ok, firstly I kinda didn't have time to write a proper update and as is it is currently Autumn in the game thus my turn is 3/4 complete. So far my turn has seen no deaths amongst the dwarves but winter is still to come and anything can happen.

So to finish off spring here is what happened:

Spring:

I wasn't impressed at all with our defences, in a bid to improve the state of our fortress after the mishaps of Loony BoB's rule I immediately dispatched the military to secure the entry point of the fortress. Immediately leading my squad up to the first floor of the tower so I could stand overwatch I noticed Shlupquack moving erratically. I made a mental note, have her pay a visit to a doctor or a butcher, whichever you prefer to call them. Since I had perfect overview of the killing fields in front of the fortress I decided to call the masons over and give them their directions. Below me Psychotic and Shlup secured the entrance that lunatic loony bob left in the hands of the enemy. The masons quickly got to work and before you know it the fortress began to look more like this:

The fortresses new defenses were fast becomming something to behold you have an entirely new corridor linking the trading depot to the rest of the fortress. The plan is for the corridor to be a defensive position, there will be a grate surround for the marksdwarves to shoot in to the ground floor from which in turn will be full of traps when finished. This will be hard for any enemy patrols to penetrate past especially when we lock the doors sealing an enemy squad inside and position our archers in either the towers or the catwalks above. This building construct should help protect the castle with on a few warrior defenders needed at a time. As you can also see I expanded the rear of the trade depot to encompass a new room to provide an entrance to the second lower tower. I also sealed access to Necro's trap to keep the fortresses reputation good incase that would stop migrants comming.

Unknown to me I had accidentally (I failed to see where they went and remembered them when they announced they would depart soon) trapped an Elvish caravan. My response to this was "well tough you've sealed your fate, shouldn't go through small gaps in walls that are being built when you arrive." I was going to leave them there for a while but Necro the child predator decided to activate the levers causing the following mayhem to occur:

I thought about it for a while and whilst I dearly wanted to shoot the damn Necronopticus for his treacherous act there against my wishes that the trap not be used for a while I saw the benefits of his actions. He'd saved the masons and myself a good deal of time and effort of trying to free the elves and keeping them away from the rest of the population if they went mad in the underground prison they found themselves in. I let it lie for now at least it couldn't happen again and the materials they brought would probably prove useful if only to trade with other people.

Thats the spring over with

Now for Summer:

Following on directly from Spring...

I was impressed however by how much gore the elvish caravan produced as witnessed by looking out of my tower at the refuse stockpile:

As you can see, the end of Spring saw no new Migrants, after so much death and destruction at the hands of the lunatic BoB I didn't really expect that many to come for a while. However excusing the miasama from the remains of the dead kobold that attempted to break in to the fort, inside the new fortifications however was Psychotic's squad on guard duty the thief did not last long at all, I think they tore it apart in about 2 seconds, angry that a creature even dared to come forwards after the blood shed of the last year my military comrades and myself were chomping at the bit to get to grips with the enemy and give them a pasting.

The above shows, the building on the surface in Stonesense the purple cloud like area is a miasama created by the thief that was killed by Psychotic's squad, the elves were still being cleaned up at the time and none of the other dwarves seemed to take notice of the dead kobold until it rotted. Note there is also an extension to the curtain wall so that the north side of the strawberry fields are protected from enemy archer fire. I will possibly consider a southern curtain wall at a later point in time or leave it up to the next person.

That covered most of what happened in Spring and the first few days of summer. It was not all of the things that happened in Spring or summer for that matter...

Straight off at the start of summer we had 2 weddings take place Momiji II stole the heart of Zeldy and Raistlin decided he'd love some of that Lekana ass...

Celes was taken by a Fey Mood which is nothing unusual though what exactly is a fey mood I wonder?

We'd just finished clearing up after the thief and the elvish caravan and we faced a much bigger threat: AMBUSH!!!!

The defenses weren't ready but a quick locking of all outer doors and the positioning of one of the two squads of melee (sorry I forget which one was on duty now) in the new entry chamber meant that I could afford to order the few dwarves outside back indoors and then secure the doors behind them. My squads that weren't on duty at the time including my own raced to their positions in that entry chamber and the tower. Thanks to the new defences my snipers moved out on to the top of an unparapeted wall in an act of brazen valour to shoot at the goblin ambushers taking 2 of them down whilst the Goblin crossbow carrier managed to shoot anything but dwarves, I think he even managed to shoot a strawberry plant!

The ambushers arrive (the hill to the south of the tower)

Our valiant millitary in position to react.

The goblins were cautious the fortress was a lot more prepared to repel invaders than before.

Shoeberto was the first to exit the safety of the fortifications and shoot at the greenskins, seeing the stout hearted dwarf the goblins began to move towards the wall shooting, I quickly followed suit between us we slaughtered 2 of the goblins with bolts before Shlupquack decided she wouldn't let us have all the fun and against orders unlocked the door and charged out alone even her squad never left the building to follow they merely stood guarding the doors yelling at her to come back...Cursing I stepped out further to shoot more accurately the shots were on target as were shlup's fists and we smashed the remaining goblins down between us one of which seemed to have got propelled backwards 3 or 4 tiles by the force of a crossbow bolt to the face! I don't unfortunately have screen shots of this event but it was pretty awesome.

During this ambush randomly a thief stole a sock that had not been claimed yet from outside the walls, I didn't get him but I suppose the mangy kobold couldn't return home empty handed...

After the battle Shlup was shaking uncontrollably and I remembered her awkward and clumsy movements back at the start of spring after speaking to her and to others I discovered something I wish I hadn't, our indominable warrior Shlup had suffered a nervous system injury and needed to be replaced as leader of her Squad. Well that was it I was saddened but Psychotic was gloating eventually I convinced her she needed to come down but she agreed on conditions...Theundeadhero takes command and the squad consisted of the following 3: Fujiko (who had deigned only to use her fists in homage to Shlup her mentor) and that was it. I am friends with the mad wrestler and so I decided accept her terms rather than give cause to end up with a fist up my rectum whilst sleeping.

Christmas ended her term as mayor and Momiji II took control of the city mayoral role...And immediately mandated the construction of certain goods.

The Migrants, Psychotic promised his father would send never made it, I began to believe they were ambushed by a bigger party of Goblins, I considered this in a dark mood a good time to go out hunting goblins however the rest of our forces and the new mayor forbade me from enacting my thoughts. Psychotic practically begged me not to because it would bring his father here to discipline me and he couldn't hide from his own father no matter how much muscle he gained.

Remember I said Celes had been taken with a Fey mood? Well she had during the mini war going on through our gatehouse she had claimed a crafts workshop and what she decided to produce during this was:

I'm sure it'll scare the children to sleep nicely if you don't behave and Necro gets to take you to visit this menacing idol and what he does there, well only he knows and he aint telling and we're none too keen on asking!

Then a couple of things happened to bring some more joy than our recent victories over our enemies brought us (and ofcourse the two marriages from the start of the season which is a sure sign that our town is recovering from BoB's time in control) Foa and Yars married and then merely a day later in a really rather surprising move Necronopticous and Sir Lancealot married too!

I wish the best of luck to the 4 happy couples!

And so we begin Autumn....
