His japanese name is "Zakkusu" and his english name is "Zack". He was never translated "Zax" just because the japanese name sounds like it. The english name of Sephiroth is Sephiroth and not Sephiros as well - of course there is no "th" in the japanese language but who would care? If some people say Zack's true english name is "Zax" then you could/would say "Sephiros" in english as well. I don't unterstand why people say "he would be translated Zax" - because obviously he is not translated "Zax" so his name is not "Zax".
