    What, if anything, do the mini items (ie, mini-cid, mini-brahne, etc.) do?

    Just collectible stuff really, doesn't have an impact on the game unless you are a perfectionist and have to collect everything.

    They are for you to find a ff releted website, and post fan fiction stories of the characters playing with them.

    They once that happens, you go meet a four armed guy, once you make Rank S, he will reveal his real name: (SPOILER)Gilgamesh. This is a minor sub-quest though.
