    Default Best Albums/Songs of 2009

I know these threads on forums usually get just a few 'I only listened to two albums this year' type comments but what the hell...

Favourite albums and/or songs of 2009? I'm still working out my favourite albums but these are my favourite songs:

    Top 10 Songs of 2009

    2. Brother Sport (Animal Collective)
    3. Two (The Antlers)

    6. Happiness (Jonsi and Alex)
    7. Marrow (St. Vincent)
    8. Bull Black Nova (Wilco)
    9. The Breakfast Song (Annie)
10=. Red Travellin' Socks (Malcolm Middleton)

Just missing the cut: You Are the Blood (Sufjan Stevens), Listzomania (Phoenix), The Fun Powder Plot (Wild Beasts), Little Secrets (Passion Pit), My Girls (Animal Collective), Inaugural Trams (Super Furry Animals), Silver Moons (Sunset Rubdown), While You Wait for the Others (Grizzly Bear), Swans (Camera Obscura), Alice (Sunn O)) )

Probably either Candy from Paulo Nutini, or I'm Not Alone from Calvin Harris. That was a big summer anthem.

Easy answer. Thrice with their album Beggars. This one is epic. For those who don't know this band, I think a little search on youtube is really worth it.

I don't know about songs, but albums from 2009 that I've liked so far include:

Bat For Lashes - Two Suns
    Fever Ray - Fever Ray
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!
    Blue Roses - Blue Roses
Antony and The Johnsons - The Crying Light
    Jenny Wilson - Hardships!

..but really, there are many albums released in the past year that I just haven't gotten my hands on yet.

This, and Converge's new album is a face-melter.

no it is not, not if you value your ears that is. Thrice is just one step away from nickelback...

    wut
I mean, I can understand Thrice not being someone's cup of tea, but to say they're almost Nickelback bad... well, that's blowing things out of proportion.

top 10~~~ the crying light, two suns, sainthood, fleurs, of birds bees butterflies and etc, jewellry, the bachelor, coconuts plenty of junk food, voltaic, the fame monster.

two of those are EPs and one is a rerelease with a live album but I don't care.

edit: top songs = another world / epilepsy is dancing by antony and the johnsons, every song off of sainthood by tegan and sara except paperback head and alligator, mother / the bull and the ram / in earth's palm / i wave by former ghosts, bad romance by lady gaga, turn me well by micachu and the shapes, glass / sleep alone / siren's song / peace of mind / traveling woman by bat for lashes, hard times by patrick wolf, happy eyes by cocorosie

but the BEST song of 2009 was:

good love by bat for lashes. hands mo smurfin down. (edit edit: actually it's tied with mother by former ghosts and someday by tegan and sara for my favorite 2009 song but .......)

edit edit edit: I JUST CANT DECIDE.

Twelve bands that did not disappoint this year, no particular order:

Panopticon - Collapse + their two splits
The Chasm - Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm
Blut aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta II: Dialogue with the Stars
    Magma - Ëmëhntëhtt-Ré
    Mastodon - Crack the Skye
    Isis - Wavering Radiant
    Drudkh - Microcosmos
    Krallice - Dimensional Bleedthrough
    Finsterforst - ...zum Tode hin
Between the Buried and Me - The Great Misdirect
    Cobalt - Gin
maudlin of the Well - Part the Second

There's still a lot I haven't sorted through yet so my list may end up changing (Converge probably belongs in the company of the above, but I need to make certain that it withstands repeated listening). There are plenty of other bands who deserve honourable mentions as well (Wolves in the Throne Room would have to be near the top of that list), but I can't be arsed listing them all.
Don't delay, add The Pimp today! Don't delay, add The Pimp today!

i disagree with these three the way that snails disagree with being shell-less. as in i feel like they didn't miss any cut.

but everything else is pretty good

What. Little Secrets was awful. I was expecting so much more from Passion Pit after their perfect EP.

Little Secrets is the best thing on the Passion Pit album, I think it dips somewhat in the middle but the first and final thirds are pretty strong.
