The point is that there's nothing to distinguish the "bad chests" from all of the others, and literally no way to either know about it or identify the chests without using a guide. Some people like to play a game without additional help, and it's basically impossible for them to have gotten the Zodiac Spear the first time through. Certain things will obviously be more difficult without outside information, but this part was impossible, which doesn't seem right.

It was totally a legitimate way to increase the games life by 40 hours by forcing everyone to play through a second time.

If by totally legitimate you mean, illegitimate, unloved, bastard child, I completely agree with you!

    Oh you must mean VII.
IMO, a lot of the FFVI fanbase are just as annoying and blinded as the FFVII fanbase, just in a different way. Like a goth who thinks he or she is anti-comformist when in fact your just conforming to a sub-culture (not saying goths are annoying, and no offense to any goths btw)

But thats not what we're here about.

I would have to say, the true villains that appear in the last chapter of the game, a la Necron.

Those were both in the original game (granted, Darkness was removed from the English version, but still).

I'm not a big fan of Dirge of Cerberus or Advent Children.
Boy am I an unfunny ass.

I don't remember Cecil having that dark blade attack in the nes game, and when my friend was messing around on my gba he was like "WTF WHY DOES HE HAVE THIS?" seeing as how he didn't remember it ever being there either, which made the game much easier in the beginning.

First of all, SNes. And second of all, they dummied out a lot in the American release.

Zodiac Spear is kinda like in X-2 if you don't give the awesome sphere to the Youth League in chapter 2 you can't episode complete everything in chapter 5, or the fact that if you Episode complete Zanarkand last you don't get the mascot dressphere. Both are low blows but the new game plus feature makes it not nearly as bad to get them in the next run

    Voice acting in general.

I can read; you don't have to program sprites to sync up to bad speech recordings for me to be interested in the story.

Sure you can Episode Complete everything in chapter 5 if you give the sphere to New Yevon. You don't even have to fight in Mushroom Rock Road to get an Episode Complete.

Yeah, that Zanarkand-bug was annoying. Well, something I found even more annoying is, that there were 2 Episode Completes in 3 regions (Calm Lands, Macalania, MRR) but to get Mascot, you still had to get the 'first' ones, the additional ones won't get you Mascot, only if you screwed up by completing Zanarkand as last one, they can save your Mascot.

With FF, I'd agree, but other games use voice acting quite well.

You just defined the FFVII fanbase at the exact same time.

And I'm willing to bet there are far more Sephiroth and Cloud cosplayers than any other FF character cosplayer.

Plus I don't actually like the game.

I believe this is mostly because the characters were simplistic sprites, with limited exposure to the actual character designs, and most people who played this game don't have its instruction booklet [therefor, they don't even know the full scope of what the actual character designs look like]. However, I still see FF VII and FF VIII chars quite often. Aside from FF VII and FF VIII, most common cosplays are things like FF X, Tales games, Trigun, Naruto, InuYasha, Kingdom Hearts, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, anything by CLAMP, and skanky cat girls that are actually overweight [in short, most of the generic/typical games/anime out there].

As for the FF VI fanbase, I don't really meet any people that try to cram down your throat that it's the best FF ever. For most people that played FF VI when it first came out, it usually wasn't their first RPG/FF. Most people that like it do speak well of it, but I've never seen anybody boast it as "OMG THIS THING IS THE smurfING BEST EVER" due to it being outdated in comparison to modern games graphics-wise, music-wise, and dialogue-wise, especially FF VII [this isn't modern, but it is far more than FF VI and usually ends up being compared with it].

I don't really know you that well, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but it sort of seems like this statement is trying to provoke a flame war or something. And it's true that I frown upon most things FF VII related, and that I like FF VI, however I'd hardly tote FF VI as the "best RPG ever" or whatever.
Actually it was a joke because it's word for word verbatim what the FFVI fanbase cannot stop saying about FFVII. Funny how you guys all expressed it's the "exact" (using the exact word "exact") sentiment you all feel.

And Khalin I wasn't trying to start a flame war, I'd like to think I get a pass for all the years I've heard my fellow EoFFers express the sentiment.

My point though is that maybe we should all get along and accept that there are people who like FFVII for legitimate reasons, who didn't experience it as their first RPG, and who have qualified reasons for calling it the best game they've ever played.

    Not me, of course.

Bolivar's obvious troll post was obvious.

I still would have said the same thing, regardless.

I thought so but wasn't sure, I don't know you very well or what you're like, so I feel obligated to take it seriously regardless. However, I don't think would've responded much differently anyways. The reason being of course is that I've heard similar things from a few other people, so here's my chance to get it out in the open. There are still a few people I've met that actually think this.

Oh and for the record, I do in fact actually like FF VII despite the fact that's been completely ruined for me by nuisance fanboys and some of the compilation that I've watched my brother play.
