You're a tool. If you told me your band I would have bought it. That was before i realised your toolishness.
Enough with the personal attacks.
Honestly, yes. While I usually enjoy the snarky mocking attitude we engage in on EoFF, I wasn't so keen on having something that took me more than two years to finish mocked, so I wanted to keep the actual music private. But I did want to discuss with others about recording and releasing music. I just didn't want any attacks on my music, especially since the genre is so easily mocked. :P New Age.
And judging my most of the response, it looks like I made the right choice. I probably shouldn't have posted this thread at all.
But thanks for the kind words Loony BoB.
The process of writing is probably my favorite part of the whole thing. That's awesome that you already have planned which songs you want to be on it, though!
Wow! Top ten is awesome. What sort of game is it?
Yikes! I didn't even know that iTunes debt was possible! :P $50 is a lot.
Close, Old Manus. Very close. It's New Age.![]()

I wish I knew what all these new age genres were. Like New Age.
Bow before the mighty Javoo!
Genres are so wide, it's just too confusing for me to use/refer to. But according to wikipedia, artists that have fallen under the "new age" category include Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Brian Eno, and John Fahey. Huh. Not very frightening to me. But I suppose this is eoff and I understand your apprehension. Congrats to you anyway.
"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."
I would give the community here more credit and say that I doubt they would mock your music. You might find some constructive criticism from those who are interested, or a "it's not my taste but congratulations," from those that aren't interested in the style but mocking? Have a little more faith in the people around here, and some more faith in your own music for that matter. If you can't handle even some well intentioned criticism than you shouldn't put your music out there at all.
And you're surprised some people have made joking comments about you making a thread saying you released an EP and not giving the information needed to download it? Not only should you have seen it coming a mile away, it's certainly not an indication that people will mock what you made. Have a little more confidence in your abilities. And even if someone did mock it, if you're happy with what you did then I fail to see why some comments from random people on an internet forum would bother you. You can't please everyone with your music, so as long as you're proud of it that is the only thing that matters.
Have you not read this thread? :P
I'm not really looking for that here. It's perfect. :PYou might find some constructive criticism from those who are interested,
Seriously, I must have done a horrible job at describing what the point of this thread was to have been. I wanted a discussion amongst people who have released their music publicly about the contradicting emotions that surround it. I didn't want a thread where people could listen to my music and post niceties. THAT would be egocentric. Something I feel I was unjustly accused of by bunny.
Yes. Down right rude insults were posted on this thread, so I would expect nothing less should I have actually posted links to iTunes.or a "it's not my taste but congratulations," from those that aren't interested in the style but mocking?
Eh, you misunderstand me. I have complete faith in my music . . . verging on arrogance. I simply don't want to have Bunny or people like him posting oh-so-clever insults about it.and some more faith in your own music for that matter.
Again, I think you misunderstood the purpose of this thread. I'm not looking for critique on my music here, well-intentioned or otherwise. Honestly, I'm not looking for critique on my my music at all anywhere, least of all here. I'm not belittling this forum, but it's a Final Fantasy forum, not a New Age composers forum. If you can't handle even some well intentioned criticism than you shouldn't put your music out there at all.
Um, I don't know which comments YOU read, but I didn't read many jokes. I read insults. I'm not sure how "you are a tool" or "egocentric drivel" or "get over yourself" can be construed as jokes. And you're surprised some people have made joking comments
Again, I thought I set up pretty clearly in my first post that this thread was to have nothing to do with the music specifically, but about the process and the emotions in the process and for other musicians to discuss their similar situations. Apparently I hadn't made that clear.about you making a thread saying you released an EP and not giving the information needed to download it?
On that we can agree. That's WHY I didn't provide links (well, amongst other reasons) . . . because I'm NOT here to get people's opinions. Had I provided links it would have been pages of "yay, good job!" and "new age is lameorama" and such. I'm not interested in that. I wanted a discussion amongst musicians about the process of releasing. You can't please everyone with your music, so as long as you're proud of it that is the only thing that matters.
My apologies to everyone if it came off as bragging or as if I wanted a thread all about me and people congratulating me for releasing stuff or whatever . . . nothing could be farther from the truth. I just wanted a discussion amongst musicians about the process and emotion of releasing music.
I managed to find it, and it's pretty good.
Some of them may have overreacted slightly and came off as too rude, but I think they were just poking fun at how your post came off sounding, which was kind of arrogant to be honest even if it wasn't your intention. As far as the "you are a tool" comment, I'm not sure how that post couldn't have come off as a joke. I really didn't see it as them trying to be mean as much as make fun of how you came off sounding. But then so much is lost in translation over the internet. I just know that if I said that in person in response to your posts I would mean for it to come off as being pretty tongue in cheek.Um, I don't know which comments YOU read, but I didn't read many jokes. I read insults. I'm not sure how "you are a tool" or "egocentric drivel" or "get over yourself" can be construed as jokes. And you're surprised some people have made joking comments
I fully understand your intention with the thread, but why can't we have both? You've had other people ask for the music and congratulate you on releasing something, while partaking in the topic at hand so I don't see where the problem is. Especially when you consider that some people aren't musicians but may come into the thread being interested in hearing not only what you released but what other members have out there. I fail to see why you think you can't share your music and have the discussion you want, or why you are so surprised that people could be interested in hearing your EP as soon as you mention you released one.On that we can agree. That's WHY I didn't provide links (well, amongst other reasons) . . . because I'm NOT here to get people's opinions. Had I provided links it would have been pages of "yay, good job!" and "new age is lameorama" and such. I'm not interested in that. Nobody thought you were bragging or wanted a thread just to congratulate you (or if they did they certainly know that's not the case now). People just want to genuinely check out your stuff and support you, which is precisely the opposite of wanting to make fun of your music.
Anyway, as for the topic you wanted to discuss, I was only ever involved in a small way with the creation and release of an album at OCReMix. It wasn't officially released as an OCR project (since it wasn't) but remixer bLiNd was quite ill at the time (about a year and a half ago) and the idea was started to make an album of remixes based on Super Metroid, his favourite game, as sort of a get well present. Despite having about a month before submissions had to be in, I had about a week before I left town for a month long course so I busted my ass to hammer out my first remix I'd ever done in a much smaller amount of time than I usually take for a song. I tend to write bits at a time and tweek and agonize and revise over a few weeks at least, so I won't say it's my best work ever, but I think it was pretty good for being done so fast, while learning to use a new DAW and working outside of my comfort zone. I'll always be proud to be a part of that album just because of the intention behind it and because bLiNd is a cool guy and a great artist.
The album name was Reserve Tank: VARIAtions for those who haven't seen it and you can download it here if you're so inclined, and I recommend it since there are a lot of great songs on it (far better than my contribution): Reserve Tank - VARIAtions
Aside from that I haven't released anything. I have some stuff sitting finished and that I'm working on that will be part of various game soundtracks, but they are far from release yet.
Good luck! I hope it does well. Sorry so many people here are being huge douchebags about it. It makes me want to swing the ban hammer.
...
You should really get used to people criticizing your music. And you honestly don't know everyone would have taken to your music had you posted it, but I respect your decision either way.
I don't record albums, but I've worked with people who are independent musicians or currently signed to a label. Making music videos and things like that.
