Thread: These bands you loved

    Default These bands you loved

As a teenager, I wasn't really open-minded upon the world of music. I listened to some weird stuff ... such as Cradle of filth, Cryptopsy, and some others I can't even remember.
I never thought that later in my life, I could listen to some bands like Coldplay, Damien Rice, Jack Johnson, MGMT, Pink Floyd, etc...

Did this happen to you ? Is there some music you've listened to that you know you will never listen again. Or have you always listened to the same kind of music ?

I was so metal when I was like, 14 and under. I was listening to Marilyn Manson and KoRn when I was in grade 3 cuz I was that cool.

Now I don't really listen to Cradle of Filth or Cannibal Corpse or any of those other bands I used to. Except Manson~~ Though I've always sort of been a bit fruity with my music. The first albums I ever bought were Issues by KoRn and ...Baby One More Time by Britney~~

Nowadays I listen to everything, though - from folk to rap to noise to metal to adult contemporary to no wave to new wave.

I had a nothing but hiphop period, a nothing but metal period, a nothing but pop period and a nothing but 60's rock period. Now I listen to all of those and many more genres. I don't even know how I had time for all of that.

I had a rap period from about 2000 to 2005, after which I didn't listen to anything at all for about a year. Then hit the video game/anime music. Sometime in 2008, I switched over into indie rock and emo, no doubt inspired by one of my friends who made me download music for him, and then mail it to his campus on DVDs. I can't remember when, but I think that I've listened to emo, back in the earlier part of the decade, based on the mix CDs that I have in my possession.

I used to listen to the sort of KoRn.. Cradle of Filth, etc. music. I can't stand it now. It was an early teenage sorta thing - the style really grates on me now.

I'm now more into... well, a lot of things (except the metalish stuff,of course) - jamaican music massively: calypso, old 60's ska, reggae, rocksteady, nyabinghi reggae, dancehall, dub,etc.. & jazz - from some big band stuff, to gyspsy jazz, to bebop & etc. - classical (though just einaudi i listen to regularly), blues - delta blues and all the old blues, old 50's-ish rhythm and blues - northern soul, punk ala dead kennedys style, hip hop & rap (especially the jazzy flavours of the old hip hop, or some of the jazzmatazz stuff, or us3 etc..), folk, "indie", trip hop, old 60's-70's deep groovin' funk, acid jazz, d'n'b, sambass, jungle, dubstep, breakbeaaats... uh.

I go through phases, and I don't think there's any band that I like right now that I'll never listen to again. Right now it's Pink, Younha, Nana Kitade, Olivia Lufkin.

I never had a hiphop period... and never will. My mind's openness stops here

I grew up listening to country music, with adventures into other kinds of pop and rock music. I wouldn't listen to it now. I started a progression (descent?) into folk music in 2004 and that's where I am today.

I was always more into rock/metal than anything, but there was a span of a couple years I hated rap/hip hop. I'd say it more had to do with no exposure to anything actually good, I still refuse to listen to all the garbage that was played on the radio.

I had a pop/alternative phase in middle school which centered around Blink 182 and RHCP. I loathed metal and rap.

Now I listen to predominately rock and metal music, though enjoy a bunch of stuff outside of those genres. I still loathe rap.

I went through a big phase where I listened to nothing but "punk" rock like Blink 182 and Greenday. Then I tried listening to Pink Floyd, which broadened my horizons and segued me into Radiohead. I feel like eventually Radiohead got me interested in electronic sounds, which had me get into some instrumental hip hop like DJ Shadow and Amon Tobin, which then made me start listening to all kinds of hip hop/rap.

So, now I have pretty eclectic tastes I feel, but I used to be very limited to specific genres and bands.

There wasn't all that much I listened to in high school that I don't still listen to. I haven't listened to Collective Soul, Creed, or Sevendust in several years but apart from that most of the stuff I can think of that I listened to then I still listen to, unless it's so unmemorable that I've forgotten it. There was a period (which lasted until early high school) when I wouldn't have listened to metal, rap, and country. Country is the only of those genres I never listen to now, though I probably wouldn't be opposed to adding some of the classics to my library; modern country is rubbish though. (That said I don't listen to much rap either, but there are a few artists I like).

About 80% of what I listen to either metal or prog but my taste is still pretty diverse.
