Default Onion Kids or Named Characters?

Do you guys prefer the blank slate onion knights of the original game, or the defined characters of the DS remake?

There is the allure of the Dragon Quest hero type, where you can truly immerse yourself in the story by filling the character with your own style, but I think I prefer the characters in the remake. Maybe I don't have enough imagination.

The DS characters: Luneth, Arc, Refia, and Ingus.
    Is that your final answer?

Oh, yes, definitely the ones with names and personalities. I get a better read on the characters that way. Can't stand the blank-slate ones.

Seems to be overwhelming so far! I thought the character models in the DS version were a lot cuter, too.

I've only played the DS version, but I think I would definitely prefer those to blank characters. If you have a complete unnamed character with no personality, I think you have to go a little further to allow the player to immerse himself more (see: WRPGs). Or you could just pull a Suikoden and make the main character have some BFFs who will just speak for him.

Actually, now that I think about it, FFT is the only game where I actually prefer using "blank" or "generic" characters over (most of) the named story characters. Maybe I just like the pretty outfits.

What made this game cool was that the characters changed their outfits when they changed jobs. Even outside of battle!

I liked the characters in DS on the count that they all weren't guys.

I voted for the blank states because you all suck and have no imaginations.

I think "personalities" is a bit of an overstatement for IIIDS, but I do prefer the named characters, only because I can have several characters on the same job without feeling like I'm playing as identical quadruplets or something.

I prefer the named characters of the Nintendo DS version than the nameless orphans of the Famicom version. I speculate that if the Famicom had the resources that Squaresoft would have created individual personalities for the purposes of this story as this was the last time that they created a nameless party as seen in Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy V followed the same formula as Final Fantasy III, but we have characters from that game like Bartz with actual personalities, so it seems like a step backwards that they would create nameless characters unless it was to save cartridge space.
I believe in the power of humanity.

I might have been able to appreciate the Onion Kids more if I had played the original on the Famicom.

I'm appalled that you didn't include the names Muuchi, Doug, J. Bowie, and Melfi

(SPOILER)Banana Sticker for the first person to tell me the significance of these names. I want details as well.

    I concur.
But then again I don't think they could have added all that much without some more serious revisions of the game script.
