Did you download the correct version for your build/OS? If your fan isn't running, then that is a problem. however, it's possible that it just can't interpret the data from your logicboard.

Thermal paste is not something you should do yourself, mostly because you probably don't have any lying around. Take it to an apple place and ask them nicely, and they probably won't charge you for it.

Unfortunately, that wasn't a made up story. I too have a Mac laptop, but I never get problems with overheating when using Final Cut Pro or other programs. The only program that has given me problems on a Mac before is Pro Tools. Unless you count one of my teacher's Macs of Doom which kept crashing every five seconds.

That story just makes me sad then. I've always said Mac users were retarded, but that just takes the cake.

At the moment I'm running Windows 7, but I actually liked Ubuntu more when I was running it. When I'm unlazy enough to create a boot sector for it and find replacements for all my Windows apps I'll probably go back to it.

I should add that I used Macs almost exclusively growing up, but switched to PCs before OS X came out because more stuff runs on them. I still like Macs but I don't have the money to invest in one right now. (I'd probably actually triple-boot all three OSs if I could afford one). Then again Apple has been pissing me off with some of its corporate policies lately.

Well, I know the fan isn't working. Because I can't hear it. I've had my own small portable fan pointed at it any time I've had to edit video. Which btw, my Final Cut Express chose to start ignoring my camera after 5 months of working with it just fine. Some Mac update killed it and now I can't seem to reverse the effect. There's an Apple store in Charleston, but I'd almost rather have a half-functional Mac to complain about than go get it looked at/fixed.

Guh, yeah, Linus, it may seem half-functioning now, but constant overheating will quickly lead to you having a completely non-functioning laptop. As in completely frying itself. Which is a lot more expensive to replace than just having a dude go in and figure out how to fix up a fan.

I've used and owned both Macs and PCs throughout my life and I prefer PCs. There is no real reason for it, I just prefer PCs.
