'CAUSE THAT'S HOW THEY TEACH YOU IN THE FIRST GRADE. I DIDN'T START USING COMPUTERS 'TIL HIGH SCHOOL SO I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HALF THE KEYS WERE FOR.

Playing too much fps games has altered me. Nowadays I always have my right hand on my mouse and for the left hand i go with:
pinky: left shift
ring: A
middle: W
index: D or R
thumb: Spacebar.

altho when I start writing my right hand goes to:
pinky: Ä (right on the southeast of P)
ring: P
middle: O
Index: J
thumb: under spacebar.

I just use whatever finger happens to be closest to the key that I need at that time. I don't hunt and peck but I can type without looking so I kinda type a little bit the right way and the wrong way. It takes too long for me to think about where everything is if I just let them rest on the homerow keys But I'm a pretty fast typer!
