One had the better battle system, and better exploration (i.e., no superpowerful enemies that tell you that you strayed 3 steps too far from the water to get to Fynn)

II has the better story, and the leveling system had so much potential, but it fell short.

I don'nt know what you guys are smoking when you say you don't like the level upsystem, I thought it was pretty kick ass how I could give somebody the weapon I wanted them to use and they would get better with it, although giving your character a good beating to up the defense was kind of silly...
Whateves I thought it kicked ass all around. I need to finish that game some time.

Everyone's talking about how the level up system spoils the game, but what really kills it is the level down system. Nobody ever seems to mention that.

It seems to me that very little people have played the NES version since the level down feature was removed in later versions of the game and people played those versions instead. That's probably why no one has mentioned it.

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

I had honestly forgotten about that and thought ReloadPsi was making a joke.

The going too far on the map was a little dumb, but we all know how Square loved and still loves surprising players with pain. You all remember saying "hey what the hell is that red shlong sticking out of the sand over there?" and then BAM RUBY WEAPON TENTACLE FUN-TIME FOR YOU.
