i'm curious, i've had it since Christmas and haven't opened it. I played my girlfriend's little brother's copy of it for about an hour and thought the fighting engine was a little weird. Then I played as Exdeath and moved slow as hell and I got slaughtered by Bartz.

Should I crack it open and give it a second try, or just exchange it for Star Ocean 2?!

Give it another try, to be sure. Playing as villains is definitely not the best way to be introduced to the game, and Exdeath is one of the worst. He has slow movement, and a very weird playstyle that centers around blocking enemy attacks to counter them. Probably one of the worst characters to start as.
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.

He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.

To be on the safe side, play your girlfriend's brother's copy some more. That way if you still don't like it, you can get a full refund.

But for what it's worth I found the fighting to be pretty fun. And my favorite character to play as is Cloud of Darkness. The post game is a little boring, when you have nothing to do but farm for items though.

I'm a bit with Black Orb. The plot for Dissidia is pretty blah and overly dramatic with most of the cast going through reader's digest versions of their plots except for FF characters from the first five games.

Its a fighting game true and true and if you can't enjoy games like this after you beat the major stuff then there is nothing else for you to do. I haven't started Inward Chaos but I'm mostly working towards getting ultimate gear for my characters and maxing out everyone.

I agree. I feel like the story was very overdramatic and that the North American localization had some dialogue issues. To me, it felt like a lot of the villains were speaking very philosophically to gloss over the issue that they weren't saying too much and that the conversation was basically one-dimensional much like a lot of the villains themselves.

Judging from the comments in this thread I'm glad I didn't bother spending money on this.

I recall a few conversations like this actually, one in particular being one between Garland and Sephiroth. They were spamming a bunch of blah-blah-blah that had absolutely nothing to do with anything, and it made me further hate Sephiroth's character for being an idiot with nothing to do other than to try and make people think that he's smart and in control of everything or something.

There were also several dialogue scenes that involved the nature of Garland, and about him being an eternal prisoner of time or something, yet at the same time they kept talking about how Cosmos' actions were actually going to end up stopping the endless battle/cycle for good, while other people said it would continue to go on forever including Garland's cycle. I really got highly irritated with everyone's inability to speak plainly and straight-forward. I know they're trying to sound mystical, philosophical, smart, and all that. But seriously, I feel like this script is a tall-tale sign of someone that tried way too hard.

Its a fighting game first and an RPG second. Most of the RPG elements involve mastering abilities and heavy character customization that is just godly...

Basically, the plot is crap but seriously, there was no way to make a crossover of the FF characters and not make it sound like Fan Fiction the premise alone of getting the FF heroes and villains together to battle is just utterly absurd. There are a few great moments in the game for the characters but the overall plot is more silly than epic. The real fun in the story segments is just spotting the dialogue or actions that are homage or references to the games they come from and the series overall. Firion posing as his box art from the Jpanese version of the game or Ex-Death's opening battle comments about how he'll wake Tidus from his "dream", or Kefka quoting some of his memorable lines from VI its these little nuances that make the story bearable, that and just watching some of the characters bounce off each other. I love Squall.

Really the battle system isn't like a typical fighting game but what they do have works for the title and allows pretty fair play. It keeps the series "cinematic feel" but actually keeps it accessible and fun for the player. Really, the core gameplay itself is fun and if you are a customization junky then this is your game cause there is a ton of crap to unlock and make for your characters and the equipment gives huge customization options for the characters.

    Summary for the ADHD members.

Story and Plot: Like a bad 80's B-movie, its unintentionally funny and bad in a good way. Watch it for the fanservice instead of taking it as a serious story.

Gameplay: Awesome if you like fighting games and heavy customization, with tons of secrets and modes to unlock and play with.

I definitely agree with this. The gameplay does make it pretty fun. Even if you finish Inward Chaos and don't play against other actual people very often [or at all], there's still a lot of things to do and so many characters to practice and learn, it's still fun.

Do you feel like the game has enough for you to do? I play Street Fighter IV and some other fighting games in a competitive environment, and the competitive aspect seems to have completely passed over Dissidia Final Fantasy likely linked to the lack of online play.

Is it really fun just playing against the computer all the time? I would not recommend the Street Fighter series or Tekken series to those who cannot play others since the storyline has never been the strongest point of any fighting game.

I'm not sure, actually. I myself have fun with Dissidia still. Admittedly, a lot of people seem to really struggle with its learning curve for some reason. However, like most things of this nature, once you learn all of the "tricks' to the AI, the difficulty goes flying out the window [many people have an easy time fighting max level Chaos now since they practice against him so often with building up AP for their characters].

You can still spend hours upon hours mastering all of the characters, because [in my opinion] they all have extremely distinct fighting styles and an interesting array of unique attack moves specific to each character [not counting Bartz, since his fighting style is specifically mimicking the moves of his companions]. I've gotten loads of hours of fun from Dissidia. Just don't expect a blow-you-away story, because it certainly doesn't have that. Also, don't expect terrific voice acting either, though I'm sure nearly everyone will be very entertained by Kefka.

Do you think there is any point in learning or mastering the gameplay if you have no one to show it off to? The whole point of a fighting game is that you can go head to head with another player and test your skills against theirs. Judging by this forum, there doesn't seem to be much competitive play for Dissidia Final Fantasy.

Yea, that's the main reason I don't find a lot of reason to keep playing any more. After the story and the Inward Chaos I don't find a lot of reason to keep building up my characters if I can't go online and beat people up. I only have another friend who has the game and he's bored of it too so I don't really have anyone to play with.

    >>> I agree with this, Im from the old school so I used to fight a lot at the arcades with other people (side to side and face to face battles). Now with the whole online gaming stuff we cant even see our opponent`s face, not to mention that you need Wi-Fi and crap like that to get online..

    >>> Competing against the computer is not that bad you know, the main point of videogames since their beginnings is play against the computer (the man vs the manchine).
And if someone need to socialize that much that person can always form a nerd group, cosplay as FF characters, and start to punch each other in the face ..
