Guys, if you can't muster up an inch of respect for the guy, you're always free to not post. If that's too hard, at least refrain from direct name calling and sarcastic pot-shots. Thank you.

    I don't understand this comment.

No one knows why he felt he had to do what he did, but I'm sure the death of his mother last week and the suicide of his close friend and mentor had something to do with his own suicide. And struggling with the deaths of two people he truly cared about doesn't make him over sensitive. :o I find suicide to be extremely tragic. I can't even imagine being in a mental space where nothing seems better than dying and for someone so talented to go there... I dunno, I find that very unfortunate.
I didn't imply I knew why he committed suicide, but suicide is an act of losing hope -- among other things. To surmise, some people can deal with their troubles and some people can't. Simply put. I'm not a fan of his clothes, but it's always unfortunate when someone young dies.

Wow, some of these comments, so insensitive.

scrumpleberry: I agree, he didn't appear to be losing steam, he could have gone for so much longer I think. His stuff is gorgeous. He was one of a kind in the fashion world, so it's a huge loss. There really is not anyone out there doing stuff like he has: creating wearable works of art, literally. Ugh.

    Dick.
The fact that you find suicide selfish speaks load of your own character. Have you ever had someone close to you commit suicide? If so, I find it hard to believe that your initial response would be to automatically label him a selfish dick. Suicide isn't about anyone else but the person who commits it. Though some might find it selfish, the actual pain or level of emotion that a person has to feel in order to find the will inside themselves to go against human nature is extraordinary. I'm not glorifying suicide, but saying that it is a selfish act is just beyond ignorant.

I didn't know the guy. I'm not a fashion aficionado by any means, my idea of a good outfit is jeans and a t-shirt. I do, however, see the artistic aspect of most of the pictures posted in this thread, and various things on Google after searching his name. In that way, he had talent.

I didn't know anything about the guy, so I looked him up. What a shame, 'specially when his mom died a little more than a week ago.

That is a big reason why some view suicide as selfish.

    Anyway, it is sad.

Not successfully, but I've have three people very close attempt. One person so close it would be impossible for them to be any closer, if you catch my drift. And, yes, I find the act of suicide selfish. And I think a lot of people do.

Suicide isn't about anyone else but the person who commits it.
Um, that would be why I find it selfish. All said person is thinking of themselves and not how it will affect their loved ones. Selfish.

But that's not the topic of this thread.

I feel bad for his friends and family and fans.

He has worked a lot with Lady Gaga recently. I think he pretty much designed everything in the Bad Romance video or something? Other than that he's famous for working with Björk too.

Anyway, I've always liked his designs a lot, and found him immensely talented. Therefore it's sad to see him go - oh, and also because he was relatively young.

Some of the comments here show just how much of a stigma is still attached to things like depression and mental illness. If you feel indifference to someone's death, that's fine, there's no law that says you need to feel sad about it. But expressing disdain for the person and bandying about terms like 'selfish' is rather unpleasant.

Well,I expect people that never felt depression to judge superficially on the matter.
It's one of those things that, "If I don't see it,I don't believe it".

And most people (if not all) who have to deal with suicide spend more time wondering what they could have done differently instead of wondering why the hell the person killed themselves in the first place. The thinking that suicide is selfish is, in itself, selfish.

How much MORE selfish is it to expect a miserable man to continue his miserable life just so the people around him don't suffer because he is gone? Yeah, it's way more selfish.

    *snip* No.

Come now, the topic of this thread isn't suicide, you're more than welcome to create another thread to discuss that. I'll be deleting any further off topic or jerk posts.
