Huh? I thought Tangela also shows up in the patch of grass under Pallet Town.

Oh well, I caught him in the Safari Zone as well and I could post a pic of him in my box too.

Indeed. Under Pallet Down it is the only Pokémon you will find in the grass.

FINALLY got an Abra. Those buggers keep teleporting away from me. And now I've been able to do this:

Progress goes slow, but steady. My team so far:

    Because I'm awesome.

I defeated Misty with a Lv17 Paras. Am I awesome yet?

Yours is a level higher. So you're one level less awesome.

Technically, he's more than one level less awesome, because Paras is part Grass, so it gets a defensive bonus against Water Gun and Bubblebeam. Butterfree has no such protection.

Plus Paras has (weak) offensive Bug attacks (actually just one at LV 20) and Starmie is a Psychic pokémon. But Butterfree Level 16 itself is stronger than Paras Level 17.

Actually, Starmie only used Tackle during the entire fight, and my Paras only knows Scratch and Stun Powder. So no elemental advantages/disadvantages here. And Sephiroth is right, a Butterfree is MUCH stronger than a Paras (twice evolved vs basic).

    Who was more awesome again?

Actually, according to Bulbapedia, Paras has much more attack and a little more defense than Butterfree, while Butterfree has much more HP, speed, and special.

With "stronger" nobody is talking about the "Attack" status, but all 6 - HP, attack, defense, special, special defense, speed - together.

I know, when did I say attack was the only thing to be considered?

You sentence about "much more attack and a bit more defense" sounds like that. That's why I've replied.

Sp. Atk and Sp. Def is just "Special" status in RBY. They didn't split the two until GSC.

Yep. This balanced psychics pretty well, didn't it?

I think the addition of the Dark and Steel types, along with moves of the same nerfed them even more.
