What the hell.

I feel like The Hurt Locker getting nommed for cinematography, is a slap in the face to films like Inglorious Basterds. If it wins anything other than director, I will be pissed.

I don't find awards shows predictable, I find them boring. I do not pay attention to them.

Though I'm sure the people getting the awards deserve to be happy about it. Good for them.

Inglourious Basterds - Gonna be ballsy here and go for the dark horse upset.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) - He's been picking up a ton of steam, which makes me sad cause I think Colin Firth deserves it for his role in A Single Man.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Bullock (Blind Side) - UHGGH, WHY?? I think Mulligan deserves this award so much. If she can pull and upset, I'd be so happy, but I don't think she will.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) - No doubt.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role
Mo'Nique (Precious) - This lady doesn't shave her legs and doesn't give a smurf if people see/talk/gossip. I love that.

Best Achievement in Directing
Kathryn Bigalow - I think this one is a lock. I doubt the Academy will let this chance to make history slip away.

Sure, I want Inglorious Basterds to win too.. but somehow I just doubt it will win Best Cinematography.

You can kinda cheat for this by looking at the winners of BAFTA. Though British opinion is sometimes different from American opinion -- many of the movies that win for BAFTA will win for the Oscars.

Yeah but BAFTA voters are more biased towards British actors (Firth and Mulligan will not win at the Oscars) and were apparently never too likely to pick Avatar as Best Film. So they're not always the best barometer.

And it's not just another awards show, it's the Oscars, the biggest, dumbest, most hilariously OTT of the lot (except the Grammys, but they're just crap).

Of course, which is why I said British opinion is sometimes different from American opinion. I think some of these awards are pretty obvious who the winner is going to be, but people can also look SAG awards for help. I actually think those winners will be very close to what the Oscar turnout will be.

I was throughly shocked when Precious won instead of Up in the Air. I like the Precious script, but I was not expecting it to win. Not as predictable as I thought it would be, but it was a given that The Hurt Locker or Avatar would take home Best Picture.
