I just got mine today it's a little Fiat Punto.

But i'm a bit nervous, i've driven it but I found it kinda nerve wracking driving without dual control at first. I had to drive it all the way down from North London to South London through Central, scary stuff

So what was your first car? Were you a scaredy cat like me or all cool and confident?

My first car is my current car: a stupid little 4-door Saturn LS1. It functions and that is all I care about, I don't need to pick up chicks anymore.

The only time I have ever been nervous while driving was when I hired some stupid teacher (parents made me) who showed up with an expensive ass brand new mustang convertible and forced me into the driver's seat. He was nervous I was going to crash and that transferred over to me.

Yeah my dad doesn't drive but he was sitting in the back seat and he just couldn't help screaming at me whenever I did anything, so his nerves were scaring me

I do enjoy driving though, I think it's just weird getting into a different car so once i'm used to it hopefully i'll relax

Parents got me a '98 Chevy Cavalier for Christmas when I was 16. It's a faithful little guy and has never given me one problem ever!

Like Bunny's view, the most important aspect of a car is whether or not it functions. :shiny: And boy does he function~

I still have my first car now which ive had since I passed, just over a year ago now. A Vauxhall Corsa, couldnt be without it anymore. And not to be cocky but from the day I passed I wasnt nervous at all and will happily drive anywhere new all the time

My first car is a my current car: '95 Lexus ES300. My mom is an accountant for a guy who owns, among other things, a used car dealership (who I have also worked for previously), so I got it at the same price they paid for it at a dealer auction.

I was never really nervous driving. My dad taught me to drive well before I had my license.

My dad taught me how to drive on an icy road when I was 14. :P

I still have my first car, despite the few troubles I've had with it (brakes went out on me right as I was coming up to a stoplight... with people stopped in front of me. That was fun, stopping mere inches from the back bumper of the car in front of me. I managed to drive it home using the emergency brakes, in rain. Oh, and the alternator went out on me once too.); a '98 Ford Taurus. It does its job well though.

my first car was a hand me down '88 Mazda RX7. It was fun but the engine died six months after I started driving it.

cracked windshield (hail)
broken taillight (jerk)
bent in front passenger fender (fire hydrant)
creaky shocks (parking lot curb)
paint scratches (jerks opening their doors)
cracked dash (footrest)
seatbelt tensioner (??)
trunk keyhole (came that way)
front driver fender (tree)
front bumper (every goddamned parking block that is higher than 5 inches)

I've got about 35K miles on it, for a total of 65K~ Thinking of getting an Altima soon, perhaps

I practiced driving on my parents' Chevy Blazer. The first time I drove it by myself up the mountain, the day I got my learner's permit, I was never so ecstatic to wear a seatbelt.

When my 16th rolled around, my dad and I checked out all the used lots to find a nice car. Was undecided between firebird or cavvie, used vs. new, but we found this one, and the controls fit my feet perfectly (which means they probably were identical to the chevy blazer )). It was almost like telepathy, how I was able to work the accelerator and the brake that first time. Magical.

'95 Mitsubishi Lancer which I still have (which is good because I've not owned it for a year yet). She does her job well, only problem is that reverse rarely decides not to stay in gear, and also it is very low so speed bumps can be a problem sometimes!

I haven't been nervous driving since I got my license, but when I first got my learner's permit I had no idea what was going on. I can pass a theory test fine but that doesn't make me a good driver. Also when taking my test(s) for my P1 license I was pretty nervous

I'm so jealous Imperfectionist, a Fiat Punto is a great little car. My first car is still my current car; a Toyota Corolla hatchback. It's the late model, however. It's known as the Auris in all other western nations. I think it looks great compared to the competition (Lancer, 3, Focus etc.) with the interior being a highlight and the big butt a big downside. At the end of the day though, it's still a Corolla.

I was obnoxiously confident when I first went in to do the test for my provisionals. I was told by my testing officer afterwards that I was on a perfect run until I reached a STOP sign that wasn't accompanied by a white line on the road. I don't know about the rules in other jurisdictions, but here, when there's no line, you're supposed to stop in line with the sign itself, but I logically stopped at mouth of the intersection, which was a bit beyond the sign. So instant fail. On my second go, I was insanely tired because I had booked it for right after an exam I had spent all night studying for and work, so that was a big fat botch.

But third time's a charm they say.

Not so for me. Slept in. Missed the appointment.

But I'm thankful that I failed that first time and didn't get it until my fourth go. Like so many other young drivers, I probably needed that humbling experience to help me become the responsible driver I am today. Besides, I wouldn't want to be one of those guys that make the 'asian driver' stereotype true.

Though passing the driving test on the fourth try would seem to work against my efforts =]

My excuse for failing three times is purely that I was a driver (to be fair, the area I was taking it in is notorious for having young male hoons so they have a reputation for marking harder. Doesn't change the fact that I legitimately failed the first time).

I can relate to that. Where I'm at, I see Pulsars and WRXs doin' 100+ down quiet suburban roads for no good reason. I see it as a result of a fundamentally flawed testing system where the driving test young drivers take to earn the right to hop in a car without supervision doesn't teach you a thing about safe driving or the consequences of bad driving (but hey, indicating for more than 5 seconds is really important [/sarcasm]. I read in AutoSalon magazine once that someone thought the right thing to do when you go into an accidental oversteer is pull the handbrake. This is same sort of person that probably thinks they're the because they think passing the driving test is essentially license for them to only ever shift up when the engine redlines.

I could go on about this for ages. I guess I'm a social worker who cares more about educating bad drivers than real societal problems

was a ford fiesta S reg, now i dont have it and dont need a car cause I'm at uni and i walk/take public transport to get anywhere

I passed second time :P Failed first time because I get crippling nerves under exam pressure and I nearly crashed into the side of a car turning into a road too quickly

I'm glad the test's over now, but getting used to being in a new car on my own is weird.
