Default Worthwhile fanfiction! (Bad and Good)

Just post or discuss your interesting fan fiction finds! Whether it be the rare excellently written fanfiction or the so bad it's good My Immortal type, post it here!

Currently I'm reading Light and Dark The Adventures of Dark Yagami, a Death Note fan fiction. Here's the beginning of the first chapter:

He walked in the front door to find his dad Soichiro and his mom (AN: I cant remember her name sorry!). They looked surprised to see him.

"Mom dad what's going on?" Light asked them.

"Light we have something to tell you" said his dad while playing with his mustache.

"This is your twin brother Dark Yagami" they both said together, and pointed to the guy in the corner of the room.

Dark looked exactly the same as Light except that he had black hair and was dressed like Mello (but Light hadn't met mello yet so he didn't know that ;-) ). He got up and walked across the room.

"Hi bro! I'm Dark!" he said lolling and offered his hand to shake.

"How could you not tell me about this!?" Light shouted like mad.

"We sent him to a top secret orphanage in Whales (its a town in England) where he would learn to be the next L. We can't tell anyone because its top secret and kira might find out and Kira might try to kill him" his mom said.

Light was crazy and punched table.

"I'm going to my room! Come on Sayu!" he said and Sayu (Light's sister lol!) followed him upstairs.

"I'm sorry light I wanted to tell you about Dark but mom and Soichiro wouldn't let me."

"That's ok!" Light replyed "Your my sister and I know how much you love me!"

    "Thanks Light!" they hugged.

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything!" It was Dark.

"Come on Dark I've got something to show you" Light said and they went into their room (Light's parents had made light's bed into a double bed (I know what your thinking sickos no theres no slash!)).

Light put the pencil in the door to stop people listening and said "I'm Kira".

Dark immediately shooted "I know it!"

"Your a worthy successor to L I know why your his successor now." Light said.

"Don't worry bro I wont tell anyone. In fact I have a death note of my own." Dark replied pulling a blood red notebook out of pants (he put it there in case his bags was searched).

"Hey your death note is a different colour to mine" he said pointing to the black death note in Light's draw.

"Stop saying colour! Your in America now! Its color!" Light replied exaspirated.

    "Sorry lol" Dark said.

"This is my shinigami" he said and light saw a big monster appear. He was like twice the size of Ruyk and had a big mowhawk made of blood and skulls. Even Light was scarred of him. He was eating bananas like Ruyk ate apples but they were blood bananas made of blood.

"He's big" said Light as the shinigami bit down on a blood banana "What's his name/"

"MY NAME IS BLUD" said Blud as he kept eating the blood banana "I AM THE NEW KING OF THE SHINIGAMI AND I HAVE A SPECIAL DEATH NOTE THAT KILLS ANYONE WHOS NAME IS WRITTEN IN IT EVEN IF YOU DONT KNOW THERE FACE OR NAME"

The only fanfiction I have ever read and enjoyed was a Final Fantasy VI "after the fact" story. I can't remember who wrote it, where I found out, and I have never been successful in finding it again. It was pretty awesome though.

I haven't read and enjoyed fanfiction since I was into FF7 fanfiction back when I was about 13-years-old.

Did Psychotic happen to write that?

I find that the more popular the subject, the worse the fan-fiction is on average. I don't typically like comedy based fan-fiction, and am very picky about what I read. Which makes it hard, as 95% of fan-fiction is just garbage, and I only like a small fraction of the work of decent quality. Doesn't stop me from searching for.

Best thing I've ever read was Whispers in Time, a fan-fiction by an author named Erico. It's about the cataclysm that occurred between Mega Man and Mega Man X, as told by each character in turn. (Very sad story)

This is one of the only fanfics I ever really enjoyed. Though it has been like 6 years since I read it, so maybe it isn't as good as I thought.

I'm not too into fanfics, but one does stick out in my mind. It's an FFVIII one about Quistis <3 Irvine. Doesn't make any sense at all, but from what I remember, it was well written and didn't lose steam as it went on like so many other fanfics.

I was 14-15 when I read it though, so it may be complete crap.

I write a lot of fanfiction myself but I agree with VeloZer0. Most fanfiction these days are written by ten-year-olds with a very limited sense of grammar. I don't read it much anymore.

Fanfiction is usually terrible, but it's no worse than a lot of things in that respect really:

Sturgeon's Law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The site Topless Robot posts a hilariously awful fanfic every week - the Harry Potter one which had a giant squid and the building of Hogwarts in an 'intimate' encounter was a highlight (or should that be lowlight).

I used to be quite into reading it because I am absolutely That Sort Of Fangirl. I read very good ones and very bad ones, and sometimes ones that were mediocre but had an interesting situation. But I rarely made it through long fanfics. I hate reading on the computer and I just prefer reading stories that take about 5-30 mins, like little snapshots or fables.

The last stuff I read a few years ago was by this guy, and I thought it was quite interesting and had some merit. Basically everything he writes is just grippingly awful (except not in the ~*~mY iMMOtralL~*~ way, in a way with actual creative value), it's like watching a beautiful trainwreck. So it's kind of a gimmick but it works for him

My main concern with fanfiction is that you can waste an awful lot of talent on it. It should be an excercise in writing and you should not consider it your PIECE DE RESISTANCE or whatever, because, to be frank, you won't be recognised and using other people's characters and situations as a vessel for your own wonderful creativity is just a big fatty waste. Don't put all of your soul into fanfiction, ffs. It breaks my heart when brilliant writers chronicle the story of a game or something in >9000 chapters and throw away years and years on it!

I don't read much fanfiction, but there is one I read recently that was epic. It's listed as Twilight fanfiction even though the only thing it has in common with Twilight is the names of the characters (seems like most Twilight fanfiction is "AU," which I do not get the point of at all; just use your own names and call it a short story). Anyway, it's super epically angsty and the characters have serious mental problems and the sex scenes are the greatest thing in the history of the world.

So if you're into angst and hot sex then check out Wide Awake. It shouldn't be hard to find; it's like 54 chapters long and on LJ.

Though I think I skipped the first... like nine or ten chapters. Feel free to do the same. xD

Damn you, Croyles! I was going to post that. ;o Zombie goasts!

Embarrassingly I went through a huge fan fiction phase when I was eleven or twelve. Never again!
