I'm going to say Fang is my Least Favorite of the main cast.

The cute little girl Vanille would have been, except she seemed to getter better as the game progressed, and during the moments she isn't talking in her normal cutesy voice and gets serious and/or down, her job is simply amazing.

If only her whole preformance was so good, then she'd be up there with Snow and Sahz.

speaking of voice acting that was strange when you heard it...

how about mandy moore as aerith and lance bass (yeah the nsync guy) as sephiroth in the first Kingdom Hearts. that was a little strange when i found that out.

I like the english voices well enough, but for the first time ever in a video game, I prefer the Japanese ones. In english, Sahz doesn't sound old enough, Hope too old and too certain, Vanille not cute and sunny enough. Can't be helped, I suppose, the Japanese voice acting was just perfect for those three characters.

However, the english ones aren't bad by any means. And maybe it's just that I've listened to the Japanese ones for so long that I've gotten too used to them. It's not terrible voice acting as in X, it's up there with XII and that's fine.

But if SE were to offer an option to choose between english and Japanese, my choice would be made VERY quickly. If only for Hope's insecure-sounding voice and Vanille's cute sounds when she's hopping from rock to rock on Vile Peaks (and Sahz was so a perv).

Sazh and Snow are indeed great. And I always felt Vanille was supposed to be "out of it," justifying her weird voice acting.

Snow's "hero" lines are intentionally cheesy, showing his immaturity and that his for doing the right thing is sort of immature as well.

Sazh's voice acting is perfect, IMO. He's funny when he needs to be, but EXTREMELY powerful when serious. Sazh is an "ordinary guy," and his voice actor is really believable: a normal guy thrust into circumstances he's not accustomed to.

I wonder if they do Pulse accents in Australian Japanese. 'cause with Vanille, it's incredibly obvious that her voice actor is American. Why? Because at times she sounds like she's trying to be British. Fail! But - I like it anyway, it makes it sound a little twisted and exotic, like she's not quite from this world (Earth, that is). I like all the voices. Snow's is easily the best. Sahz is good. Hope is done perfectly - young, but not annoying like, well, most young characters you'd expect from Square Enix. They did a good job on all of them, really - they all suited the characters they were playing. Impressed, overall. Even the NPCs are done well.

The only thing that bugs me is the kid voices. Just use real kids, dammit!

Hmm, I'll have to look out for that on my next play through, I didn't pay it much attention. You're right, though, it would make sense to get kids in for it. Maybe they didn't have the resources/money to get that much of a variety of people in.

Really? I imagined parents would themselves at having their kids being able to voice a random background sci-fi child with bad hair.

Is that Melbourne, Texas or Melbourne, Massachusetts?

I think her voice has grown on me.

Loony, I definitely agree on Vanille's accent in that it's just odd. I remember her switching between what one would consider "normal American", British, Austrailian, and even a bit of Southern in one or two spots. I heard her run the gamut in one set of lines somewhere, I forget where.

It bothers me. A lot. And lastly, I couldn't say it better myself...

Besides Vanille, everyone else is fine.
Kuja Highwind/Blackmage: Some guy that used to be active back around 2001... He almost made his way through Proto's Custom Title Tournament way back in the day...but almost only counts in horseshoes and grenades. Oh well.

Query: Vanille is clearly not from Australia, or the US, or the UK, so why do we care about how her accent relates to any of these places?

Wow. I can't believe how much of an American accent that lady has picked up. In the video posted earlier of her, she speaks with a clear American accent.

EDIT: Shlup - (SPOILER)Those born on Pulse are supposed to have Australian accents in this game, to show that they are different.

(SPOILER)They're supposed to speak differently than those from Cocoon; I don't see why the way the accent relates to Earthican accents should really matter.
