    Default It's Here! It's Queer!

No, it actually isn't...maybe. It's the Oscars! It's coming next month. Many people like to say award shows are predictable, but can you predict all -- if not most of who will be winning that night? Feel free to give reasons for your predictions.

For the list of nominees for every category you can go here.

I'll put my predictions in another post.

Best Film: Avatar - because it's made a ton of money
Best Director: James Cameron or Kathryn Bigelow - see above, or the Academy will want to make history
Best Actor: Jeff Bridges - because he's lost so many times before
Best Actress: Sandra Bullock - because the Academy loves those 'ballsy' roles, and because the shortlist is pretty poor
Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz - he's won every other award so far
Best Supporting Actress: Monique - ditto

Otherwise expect Up in the Air to scoop Best Adapted Screenplay, Up to win Best Animated Film, and the ceremony to last an eternity.

These are all givens. I would like to see District 9 for best adapted screenplay, but it did have some piss poor dialogue at times. The script in Up in the Air was just amazing.

I wouldn't be too sure of Waltz winning. Though he is a favorite to win, the supporting actor Oscar has always been an unpredictable award and he's up against people like Morgan Freeman who played Nelson Mandela and Stanely Tucci who played what I thought was a very convincing psychopathic pedophile; which was a very challenging role for him.

Waltz is the biggest certainty of the lot. He's won every supporting actor award going, it would be a huge upset if he didn't win. Plus recent wins for Heath Ledger and Javier Bardem suggests they love their psycho characters in this category.

Also he's up against Matt Damon, not Morgan Freeman.

It wouldn't be an upset to me seeing as how he still nabbed the academy award and there are others nommed for that list that I think I think are good, but he is definitely not the underdog. And you're right, I was confusing Morgan Freeman's best actor nom with best supporting actor. That changes things a little.

If Avatar wins Best Movie it'd be the "WTF Moment of the Year". Seriously.

    Default My Predictions

    Best Picture - Avatar
Best Lead Actor - Jeff Bridges
Best Support Actor - Christoph Waltz, though I would prefer Stanley Tucci to win because I think he's good and I don't like when people sweep this award unless their name is Marlon Brando, Christian Bale, or Jack Nicholoson
Best Actress Lead - Meryl Streep
    Best Support Actress - Mo-Nique
    Best Animated - Up
Art Direction - The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Cinematography - Robert Richardson (Inglorious Basterds)
Costume Design - The Young Victoria
Directing - Kathryn Bigelow ( The Hurt Locker)
Documentary Feature - The Cove...though I could see Food,Inc. winning just as easily
Documentary Short - Rabbit a la Berlin
Editing - Sally Menke (Inglorious Basterds), she needs to win
Foreign Language - The White Ribbon
Makeup - Stark Trek...this is just a guess cuz I don't pay attention to makeup unless it's completely dire
    Music Original Score - Up
Music Original Song - "The Weary Kind" I haven't even listened to it, but everyone keeps gushing about it so it will probably win
Short Animated - A Matter of Loaf and Death...of course one of their movies will win because it's stop motion and stop motion animation is amazing
Short Live Action - The Door
Sound Mixing - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
    VFX - Avatar, duh
Writing Adapted - Up in the Air, an amazing script
Writing Original - A Serious Man, gonna play it safe and stick with the Coen Brothers

    Best Picture: A Serious Man
Although it will likely go to a movie everyone has seen this year (Avatar, The Hurt Locker), I would absolutely love to see this movie when the big prize. I have yet to see Avatar, but I highly doubt it is as entertaining and wonderfully done as A Serious Man was.

Actor in a Leading Role: Jeff Bridges
Having not seen Crazy Heart at this time (nor most of the movies on the noms list) I can only guess. However, I've heared rave reviews about his performance.

Actor in a Supporting Role: Christoph Waltz
There is no God if this man does not win.

Actress in a Leading Role: Sandra Bollocks
The general consensus about the victor here seems to be Sandra Bullock. No interest in the movie itself, but everything good I've heard about The Blind Side mentions her specifically and usually first.

Actress in a Supporting Role: Mo'nique
Who doesn't love fat, black women in heart-warmingly sad movies. Or something to that effect. Screw Mo'nique.

    Animed Feature Film: Up
Sad day in Hollywood if this film doesn't take it home.

    Art Direction: Avatar
Durp durp durp. It was either this or Nine and my vote goes towards this.

    Cinematography: The Hurt Locker
I'm getting tired of explaining my choices.

    Costume Design: Nine
    This was a terrible idea.

    Directing: The Hurt Locker
    WHY

    Documentary Feature: Food, Inc.
    ---

Documentary Short: Rabbit à la Berlin
Any film that has à la in it is a surefire winner in my book.

    Film Editing: Avatar
CAUSE HE'S MADE SO MUCH MONEY HE BOUGHT GODHOOD STATUS

Foreign Language Film: Who the hell cares about foreigners.
    Seriously, I don't.

    Makeup: Star Trek
    Wait what

Music (Original Score): The Hurt Locker
I wanted to go with Fantastic Mr. Fox because the dude's last name is Desplat but Hurt Locker has two nominees. I like those odds.

    Music (Original Song): Crazy Heart
Cause it's a weary kind of heart.

Short Film (Animooted): The Lady and the Reaper
    La Dama y la Muerte

    Short Film: The New Tenants
The offered picture on the Oscar website has a screaming black man. Need I say more?

    Sound Editing: Avatar
Seriously. He's a modern day gold god man.

    Sound Mixing: Transformers
:bou::bou::bou::bou: movies have to win :bou::bou::bou::bou: awards.

    Visual Effects: AVATAR
    LOL NOBODY SAW THIS

Writing (Adapted Screenplay): Preecious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire
I hate this movie even more because of that stupid title.

Writing (Original Screenplay): The Hurt Locker
    Random guessing!

I've had two hours of sleep.

Whether or not he was just being nice (which he probably was, he's probably a gigantic cockbag irl), he already said it'd be a great disservice to the entire world of film if she didn't win Best Director.

Or something to that effect. He's a cockbag.

    EDIT: Wrong thread! Haha.

Based on the movies I've seen, I think Avatar will win everything, but Up/Nine/Transformers/Coraline will win all the others. Because these are, I think, all the movies I've seen.

That was sweet of him to say, but I know he really wanted to say, "WHAT BISH SUCK IT I AM JAMES MOTHER smurfING CAMERON I DIAMONDS!"

That would hurt a lot. Even for James Cameron.

I've not kept up enough to predict accurately, but if District 9, Up and Carey Mulligan win something and Avatar wins minimally, I'll be a happy camper.
