And no, leave the missions where they are. Try them later. You will see there are missions which are too difficult. Later you need to have almost maximized characters. And for this you have to finish the storyline and get the Crystarium LV 10 so all of your characters can level their 6 jobs to Level 5.
Anyway to have to train. Otherwise the boss of the tower will show you what's power.
And here are some screenshots to encourage you to do your sidequests later instead of just ignoring them forever (but I think no Final Fantasy fan who likes sidequests will do that):
