I forgot
I know its a pretty common archetype but in all the ff's from 6 to 9 the MAIN character has had some form of amnesia and in 10 everyone in the world THINKS the main character has amnesia. Did Square keep forgeting theyve already used this story?
Do you think there is some deeper meaning in this?
Kefka's coming, look intimidating!
Have a nice day!!

I think the only deeper meaning is that Square has amnesia.
And Terra isn't the main character in VI. At least not the only one.

It makes it easier for Square to write twists in their backstory

Not a Banana
They should put in a dun-dun-dunnnnnnnnn sound effect for whenever the character's are 'cured' of their amnesia.

Galuf in V had it too. It's just an overused cliché.

Xenogears did the amnesia twist so well that its hard to even take the others seriously. Yeah, its a terribly overused cliche in RPGs but it has its endearing qualities to. I think amnesia still works as long as you keep giving it a proper twist so I can't say its a bad cliche.

I'm not sure about main character from IX with amnesia unless you're counting Garnet. From what I recall Zidane didn't remember too much about his homeland because he was kicked down to Gaia before he even had a conscience. Oh yeah, he couldn't have had amnesia because also didn't recognize Bran Bal when he got there it was just a surprise for him as the rest of the party.
