For the next character spotlight we look at the top seed from the Franchised Division: Auron! Warning as this does contain FFX spoilers.
Auron is an important character in FFX's storyline, being the only person to have made the Sin pilgrimage, and acting as Yuna's guide on her journey. He is known for his cool demeanor and wisdom, however for much of the game he remains short sighted that the Sin cycle cannot be broken. Later, he is instrumental in coming up with the plan that ultimately defeats Sin and Yu Yevon and ends the sacrificing of summoners in Spira.
Auron is unique in the party in that he is an unsent being. During the first Sin pilgrimage he was killed along with Braska and Jecht, but his promise to Jecht to look after Tidus allowed him to keep close ties to Spira and he was allowed to remain without turning into a fiend. At the end of FFX he is finally sent to the Farplane by Yuna. For that reason he doesn't appear in the sequel, FFX-2.
Even though the sphere grid system allows all players to essentially learn all abilities (save overdrives and Yuna's summons), for much of the game Auron's sphere 'path' has access to many strength nodes and 'break' abilities. This makes him a great powerhouse when dealing physical damage in battle, and weakening the enemy. He is probably the strongest character physically for much of the game, making him a great asset. His overdrives allow him to do even more physical damage and even obliterate enemies.
In previous tournaments Auron has done exceptionally well. He has made it to the Final Four in both the earlier FF character tournaments, losing to eventual runners up Locke and Vincent. In the FFX mini-tournament he place first which resulted in his top seed here. He is a formidable character and I don't doubt he'll do well in this year's tournament.
