    Default Awesome Classics

Ok I really have never watched many classic movies* but know about a lot of them. Mind helping a classic movie inept person? I'm trying to broaden my movie watchings.

    SO HALPS!

*classics = things that are older and I wouldn't have seen in my short near 20 years of life if I hadn't gone out of my way to see them

I haven't really seen many, either. It's very difficult for me to enjoy older movies because, as shallow as it sounds, they just look like ass and most of the acting sucks. I saw Gone with the Wind a couple years ago and I thought it was total crap, for example. Not to mention it's possible to miss a couple meals in the time it takes to watch it. :\

Yeah I've never watched the godfather movies or anything like that. I tend to be a graphics junkie so explosions and high action scenes make me drool and older movies just don't have as great stuff!

Deer Hunter is old and I really enjoyed it (although I wasn't aware how long it was going to be). Christopher Walken is just the king of awesome though.

Casablanca (1942) is one of my all time favorite movies. Like 90% of the "classic" lines from movies that you've heard but don't know where they are from are from this movie. It's a great story with great actors.

The good the bad and the ugly (1966) is very good. It's probably the most famous of Clint eastwood's movies, and another movie where a lot of classic moments come from it.

Citizen Kane (1941) is long, and can be boring, but if you appreciate films in general it's a good one to see. It is told in an interesting and in some ways inovative style.

If you've got like 3 and a half hours to kill Lawrence of arabia (1962) is good.

Taxi Driver (1976) is great. If you have not seen it, then you can't fully appreciate how awesome of an actor Robert De Niro is.

Others you should see; On the water front, Jaws, cool hand luke, one flew over the cuckoos nest.

I don't know how far back qualifies as classic, but a couple good ones from the 80's are Rocky (BTW NOT a sports movie{the 1st one, none of the others are worth watching}), Full metal Jacket, Die Hard, Scar face, the princess bride.

There are SO many more, if you've been wondering about one just ask because I've seen a butt load of movies.

I just realized Rocky was the 70s, but i'm not changing where I put it, deal with it lol

Jack Nicholson is awesome in it.

Some other good Nicholson movies are Easy Rider, The Shining, and not that it is all that old, but an absolute classic is A few good men.

Dude, some of them may have been better than others, but there's nothing wrong with the rest of the Rocky flicks (excluding V of course, which is just...a stain). Nothing pumps you up like a Rocky marathon.

I'd also second Taxi Driver and Full Metal Jacket. Also, 'A Clockwork Orange' is a great classic.

I don't hate Rocky 2, 3, and 4 but they are silly sports movie with no real message. Where as the 1st one is a classic story of the american dream. Thats all I was trying to say.

Love these. Can't think of any particularly fantastic ones atm but if any others get mentioned I will nod in agreement.

I love the Godfather movies! If I like them I think you might too. I haven't seen the third one though. I love the dynamics between the characters.

Have you seen any old Audrey Hepburn movies? I've only seen a few, but I really like them. Breakfast at Tiffany's is adorable. And the original Father of the Bride.

I've avoided the Hepburn movies because my first college roommate was obsessed with her so she was all over our room watching me sleep. It was traumatizing.

You must work to get over it! Hepburn is unendingly charming.

Dude, if The Princess Bride is a classic, then I feel sooo old. It's a small price to pay, though. That's my absolute favorite movie ever.
