    Default Overprotective Father

When I played through FFIV for the first time, I didn't give much thought to Tella's overprotectiveness, but now that I'm older, I can't help but feel bad for poor Anna, who only wanted to marry the man she loved!

Subject: Do you think Tellah was right to be so against Anna wanting to marry The Bard? Or do you think Anna had every right to marry who she wanted?

I mean, it's not like the Bard was a jerk. He was a fantastic fellow!

Seeing as Anna is a woman, Tellah had every right to be against her marrying Edward as she doesn't know what she's doing.

By letting his daughter marry a bard he was setting his grandchildren up for failure.

Did you all miss the part where "The Bard" was freaking royalty??? Tellah was basically opposed to his daughter marring into wealth and power he can only dream about! And given what a wuss Edward was, she would have wound up being the power behind the throne in short order! Where's the down side here?

Because nothing beats the sound of a million voices screaming in unison.

Tellah had no clue that Edward was royalty. He was opposed to his daughter marrying some roaming bard, who seemed like a vagabond. It's only after the attack on Damcyan that Tellah learns of Edwards true background. And this is exactly why Edward didn't reveal his background; he didn't want his wealth and royal heritage to sway people's opinions of him.

Edward is a dumb-smurf. Instead of being worried that his heritage will play a role in peoples opinions of him, he disguises himself as a Vagabond bard.

Tellah was right. Bard's excel at dodging child support payments, and Tellah doesn't need his whore daughter and bastard child moving back in with him.

Edward wasn't right for any female! I agree with Tellah! It's not his fault that his daughter was in love with a Spoony Bard. Especially not one with the useless hide ability!

She could have inherited his awesome last name--von Muir! Yeah I don't think Tellah knew about him being royalty until Damcyan was attacked but even then I think he was still too overprotective!

I think he had every right to voice his objections but not to stop her from doing anything. Although in this sort of setting, he bascially owns her so I guess he really did have the right to yell at the Spoony Bard.

But von Muir. Anna von Muir has that flair to it man!

It was a spoony bard, not an ordinary bard. Makes a world of difference.

Well it's kinda like a modern day problem. Let me set it up in a modern day context: A father doesnt want their daughter to marry a musician because they think that he cannot protect her and look after her financially, but little does he know that he's freakin' loaded because he comes from a rich family.

I personally wouldnt mind, but I can sort of see why Tellah does, and he does later on realise he was wrong and his over protectiveness ended up driving Anna away and leading to her death.
When we dance, it looks just like Fire.

When we sing, it sounds the same tone.

Sure is a nice change up from what seems to be the norm in RPGs.

"How old are you now, son? What? 15!!! It's about time you went out and saved the world. And don't forget to take that sword I've irresponsibly been teaching you how to use."
