Thread: So I'm Gonna Play FFV: Advance

Default So I'm Gonna Play FFV: Advance

Well, actually, I'm gonna replay it. I started and was maybe an hour in then saved and forgot about it. That's my bad.

It's been months since I did that though so I have no clue where I'm supposed to go. I'm at Tule and I do remember Faris telling all her pirates to go but after tha.t..nothing.

Also, I don't think what job you assign everybody really matters... I mean anyone can have any job right? So I got a Knight Bartz, White Mage Lenna, Black Mage Galuf and Thief Faris.
Because the main hero should have a sword, a pirate should be a Thief and chicks do well as White Mages. That's my reasoning.

So I'm also curious. How is the Advance version different from the PS1 versions? Are the characters and stories different? I know the Advance versions of the games are translated differently.

Its mostly the translation. Faris talks like a Scooby Doo villain (she couldn't say anything without putting "Argh" somewhere in there_ in the PS1 version whereas in the Advanced version she just talks with a gruffer dialect.

Galuf also has more lines where he just really loves making one-liners at Bartz expense. Mostly the dialogue is much clearer and feels like s a semi-modern RPG as opposed to a terrible translated hack job like FFII USA. Equipment has also been re-translated and usually makes more sense and keeps some of its original religious connotations.

The new additions are four unique job classes and a hidden dungeon with a truly epic special boss. Beyond that, its a just a well made game with a better translation that makes the casts personality much clearer and more dynamic.

Ah. So it's not like the beloved FFVI with its...unique original translation that so many love.

I was thinking I'd play either the Anthologies version or Advance version but if there's so little difference in translation, I'll just stick with what I got.

The advance version is far superior. The dialogue is far more enjoyable, graphic enhancements were made (if only on the backgrounds during battles) New job classes (though admittedley nothing special) And a new dungeon which is enormous and filled with epic boss fights. Not to mention a "Boss Rush" where you can fight almost all the bosses one after another.

I'd advise regularly changing your job classes. There's no point in mastering a mage when level 6 magic doesn't even become available until near end game, and the idea is you learn jobs from one class and carry them over to another, so learning as many abilities as you can will let you create endless possibilities of party customization
