My Latin teacher at high school was gay, and I was fairly sure of it long before anyone told me - that's my gaydar.
Then when I noticed he was listed with another guy in the telephone directories and everyone in my class started talking about it during a party I was pretty much completely sure.

You can never be completely sure just because you "feel" someone is gay, but you can sometimes make a good guess.
It's almost like feeling when someone is insecure without actually getting it confirmed.
