Good post. I'm not trying to rebut it here or anything, just wanted to comment on a couple of things.

I steered clear of the General Forums because the atmosphere was intimidating. I felt like I would be judged or something for jumping into a conversation between longtime friends.

Haha, you know, I felt exactly the same way all those years ago. I didn't think I was worthy of posting in General Chat until I had a custom title. How funny is that?

If a newbie posts something in the wrong forum they get a stoic reprimanding, not a friendly heads-up.

I'd like to disagree with this bit of it though, I always try to be very friendly when moving threads, especially when it's a new member involved.

I don't remember much. I know I only posted in FFVIII at first. I posted in maybe one GC thread, and that thread was called "How much do you value peas?" with a icon. Or maybe I just looked at it and thought "huh you know maybe I should post in this General section." I think maybe I just wasn't interested, because I was more active at a Pokemon forum that's currently dead so my non-FF related thoughts would be posted there xD

I have won precisely one election of four previous ones entered. And neither of my BAoTW campaigns were successful (SECOND PLACE FOREVER ) It was The Party.
