I find it really hard to judge when to say hello to someone in passing or whether or not to stop and talk to them or whatever. Sometimes when I'm walking and I see someone I know I just kind of pretend not to see them until the last second so there isn't this whole "I'm going to smile at you for a few seconds then maybe wave and then yell out to them or something".
I'm a big yeller.
I'll shout the person's name across the street and gesture for them to come over or I'll start heading over to them. It must be very awkward for them. =]
