Squall,Rinoa and Quistis.
My Squall was a happy camper with two chicks.
My first playthrough was Squall, Rinoa, and Zell because I was 10 and though that those 3 were the most important to the story. Not bad limit breaks though.
Second time was Squall, Zell, and Quistis. I found it to not be as useful as the above, but Quistis is nice to look at, so yeah.
This time I'm going with Squall, Zell, and Irvine. I've never been too big on Irvine but I wanna see what he's like this time.

Since Squall is such a loner, I usually have him kill the other two so that he can be all alone through the game!
The best team for me is always Rinoa, Squall and Zell... I always end up with them whenever possible ^^!
If not Zell then maybe my next preference would be... Quistis. I think <_<.

Owned Omega Weapon 6x in a row using AURA and HOLY WAR and spamming Lion Heart, Fast Shot (Fast Ammo), and Duel..... trust me.. he would never want to use Terra Break again.
Squall, Quistis, and Zell for sure
My preferred party consisted of Squall, Rinoa, and whoever was most relevant to the story at that time.
I believe in the power of humanity.
Squall and Rinoa are irreplaceable the first time around, but using them for your second time, just gets boring and predictable. The third slot is usually filled by Selphie, who is a decent addition.

Squall, Rinoa & Quistis. It used to be Squall, Rinoa & Zell, but Quistis is just much cooler than Zell.
Funny part of the game is when you split the parties when you first meet Irvine. Just put Rinoa & Selphie in Squall's party and check his reaction. Brilliant. Think you could so something in VII by putting Tifa & Aeris in Cloud's party when you leave Midgar.

Well, she is awesome. I have the whole ArtFX action figure collection and she's my favorite (with Ultima Weapon a close second).
