Default Good place to get AP?

I've been replaying FFVII, and leveling up and such to take on the Ruby Weapon and then head to the Northern Crater (though I never found Sephiroth that hard. Oh well).

Where do you guys usually go to get a lot of AP? I googled it, but I found a bunch of different responses, so I'm wondering where you guys find best?

Because I value all your opinions.

A good place to get a lot of AP is inside the Northern Crater or the Sunken Gelnika.

If you used the w-item trick you can use a lot of elixirs and level up defeating Magic Pots at the Northern Crater.

Yeah, my favorite place is deep in the Northern Crater. The rooms with the Mover enemies are best. Also, Elixirs are faily easy to replenish without taking advantage of the W-Item glitch since you can steal them from the Tonberry enemies there. The only fight I don't like in that area is the one with that crappy kid and his pony.

I can't say I'm certain, but if you're just looking for battles on the world map instead of in a dungeon, then I think the forest just outside of Mideel has the best AP. That's where I used to level when I couldn't be arsed with going in and out of the Northern Crater.

    I think.

Also, best bet to increase AP quickly is to take advantage of double and triple growth equipment as necessary. That's my main requisite for choosing equipment throughout the game anyway until the very end.

You can access Head Hunters on disk 1 and they provide the best EXP and AP on the world map. That sunken ship is a good place if you morph the enemies as you fight. You get exp and ap still I believe. The best place though is the northern crater on the upper left path. If you don't have the w-item materia then you can steal elixers from two enemies there. Tonberry and the horse monster that shows up with the guy with rabbit ears have them to steal.

    You memory serves you well.

I like Mideel because you don't have to strategize with the enemies, just pound away mindlessly. Although Northern Crater has enemies that give the most AP.

Though the amount of time wasted with Tonberries and smurfing Christopher and Gighee probably causes Mideel to work out as being a bit quicker :P

    Anyone ever tested this theory?

I have tested the theory which is better. Mideel is good for leveling up magic, but if you want to master your materia your best bet is to find Elixers. Now its been a while since I've done this so excuse me if somethings are not right. The dragon type monster that drops carob nuts for chocobo breeding, can either steal morth or drop elixers I don't remember. As mentioned before tonberry and other enemies can give a supply of elixers as well.

If you don't have the W-item then mastering magic/command/support/independent materia can be done with head hunters near mideel. However Summons such as Behamut Zero, and KOTR is earier to master with stealing elixers and using them on magic pots. While your at it might as well master other things as well cause even with 99 elixers KOTR is still time consuming to master.

my opinion only Northern Crater > Mideel

Mideel is generally the best place. Cloud with Apocalypse equipped and a Rune Armlet (Triple and Double Growth), Cid with Scimitar(?) equipped and a Rune Armlet, and any other character. The groups of four Headhunters give you 320AP, so with Triple growth, that's 960AP. Movers and Magic Pots always seemed to be impossibly rare to me. Plus, there's a wobble glitch on Mideel island that you can abuse to hearts content.

I found Mideel a bit slow. I used the same place as oddler in that jungle-y maze, it worked pretty well for me. It's not a big hassle to go in and out of the crater and you'll need some of the materia and enemy skill down there anyway.

But is there a wobble glitch there? NO! MWAHAHAHAA!

I assume you mean the Ancient Forest? The one with the flies and frogs 'n weird honeycomb...?
I just like hacking the murder out of that.

No, different place. Deep inside the Northern Crater in the area with the paths you can walk underwater. Movers aren't really that rare; I tend to find them maybe 1/7 encounters. Magic Pots are more common than that and sometimes you find two of those at a time! That's like... 2,000 AP, times triple growth is 6,000 AP in one encounter. Dude. Seriously.

Edit: Also, what's a wobble glitch?

Ah right, an example of me being confused. NOW WIPE YOUR MINDS!

A wobble glitch is where you run into a corner or an edge that makes the camera shake. This is because your character is taking half-steps and twisted geometrical twists to get to an area they can't get to. Basically if you tape the X button down, find a wobble glitch and have Regen Rings or summit (bleh), tape the direction button in the way it needs to go and you have an infinite battle loop, gaining you EXP and AP for no effort. Like the Raft glitch in FF6. God I love free levels.
