    Default Def Poetry Jam

Recently, there has been a thread about a female spoken word poet (I can't quite remember her name). She did have a lot of talent, but it wasn't to my liking. Myself, NorthernChaosGod and eternal essence had expressed interest in some Def Poetry Jam performances. So I thought I should dedicate a thread to Def Poetry Jam so we can all share and discuss the poems/poets that we really like.

I'll start it off with this poem by Gemineye.

So please share poems with us all because knowledge is power. Kill ignorance and enlighten us all. One love.
When we dance, it looks just like Fire.

When we sing, it sounds the same tone.

Isn't this just rapping minus a backing beat? Or is rap poetry with a backing beat?
There is no signature here. Move along.

It would be closer to this. But not only this. I prefer my spoken word less "rappy" than Gemineye (though he's great).

ENVEY. I love Def poetry. Ishle Yi Park is one of my favorites.

    This is amazing too.

That first one makes me want to see if I can still get Def Poetry Jam on DVD still.

As someone who will be teaching in a year, and works in classrooms now, I appreciate Taylor Mali's slam. Plus, he's humorous:

EDIT: Oh, and this is an example of slam poetry in general. I've actually slammed before. I wasn't as good as any of these people though.
