The Time Traveler's Wife - Novel
After longing for ages to see the movie, I finally caved and bought the book first so I could get a glimpse of the original storyline before seeing the movie.
My thoughts on the book: Very, very, very bittersweet. Funny at times, and very romantic, and while the lovelove scenes weren't TOO graphic, still pretty hawt imho
Who else has read it or seen the movie?
I read book and I loved it. It is as you said very bittersweet and it raises some good philosophical questions. The concept itself is very interesting and I liked how the POV switched from Henry to Clare. I haven't watch the movie because it looks like they made it very cheesy and diluted the story down a lot. Generally adaptations suck so I wasn't interested in watching it. If I'm bored and I see it on TV or something, I'll watch it.
When we dance, it looks just like Fire.
When we sing, it sounds the same tone.
This book made me sob so hard at the end. it was so good!! the film is no way near as good but i think they cast Henry perfectly.

I didn't cry during the book, but I came absolutely close.
(SPOILER) I could help but crack up when it subtly mentions the one scene in the book where he's...y'know, smurfing himself and his dad walks in all "WHAT THE smurf" and refuses to speak to him for weeks xD

The film is a good film, I think. But it's no where near as good as the book. Probably one of the best books I've ever read.
The film is still totally worth a watch, in my opinion.
The book is one of my all time favorites. It had me full on sobbing by the end.
I thought the movie was crap, despite the fact that Rachel McAdams is a lovely actress. I knew the movie wouldn't be all that great when the release date kept getting pushed back, and the author herself expressed disappointment with the project (of which she had zero input over).
One of my favourite books ever.
The film was a huge disappointment. Eric Bana was awful as Henry, and I usually like him. I was so bored during the movie that I was just (SPOILER)waiting for him to die already from about twenty minutes in. Gaaaah.
Oh i'm really surprised that this book is getting such rave reviews on here, I might have to give it a read.
I don't know why, but I just got the feeling that it was a bit of a fad and that wasn't worth bothering with so I never really looked into it.
This is a good book. People should read it, and not watch the film. It handles time travel in one of the best ways I have ever seen.

Without a doubt, if you're going one or the other get the book.
But I could never understand the hate for the film.
I'd get the book first, if I watch the film before the book then I won't be bothered to read the book XD

I was going to buy the book AFTER watching the movie because I like to imagine the characters as how they look in the movie in situations like this, but I couldn't pass it up, and now I'm glad I didn't.
It's probably better that you did it in reverse since Claire/Henry from the books are so different than in the movies. The author was pretty disappointed with the casting job.
The movie was the usual romance fluff, and the books are much more... I dunno. Real? It was amazing to me that a relationship with so much fantastical elements could be more realistic than a lot of the fluff that's out there. And that a romance book could handle time travel in a way that made sense and didn't break any rules (ie: going back and changing things, that's not possible!) was amazing as well.
The only slightly "eh" part of the books would be the ending, which was kinda cheesy. But after how heartsick I felt by the end of it, I needed that last bit to keep from being super depressed.
