As my friend said, how is the vuvuzela any worse than the usual bunch of chavs drunkenly chanting out of tune. And generally, when I watch football, I watch football. I don't watch football to hear people sing or chant or beat drums or play brass bands.
And as someone said, it's like going into France and telling them to stop being sulky. And it turns out that South Africans bought the majority of the tickets, so we can do whatever we want there. Not withstanding the fact that the majority of foreign supporters are also blowing them and a million of them have already been sold in England.
Even the head of the English Fan Club said he didn't have a problem with them and many of the English fans were merrily blowing them while they were chanting during the England - USA game.
I love how the foreign media has been trying to drag South Africa down for the entire World Cup. Firstly, these articles appeared stating that we will never have the stadiums ready in time and that contingency plans have been made to send it to Australia. Then, when it appeared that the stadiums were going to be finished in advance, they turned on infrastructure and security. Now they've moved on to the vuvuzela.
Maybe just try let it go and then it'll drift happily into the realm of background noise, allowing you to watch the game. Which is why I assume you watch football.
Anyway, enough of that rant and back to football. The opening games tend to be nervous and dull because no team wants to lose and it is also the first time they step out onto the World Cup field. Things tend to improve in the 2nd round of group matches.
