Thread: Final Fantasy XIII has sold 5.55 Million Copies

  1. #16

Default compare it to Red Dead Redemption

some people are already saying they will sell their copy of FFXIII to get this game.

I would never sell my copy of an FF game....
To me the fact people are selling or trading their copies for other games shows a lot.

You wouldn't. I sell most of my games because lots of us don't have much money!

I prefer to compare it to other 'big name' games out there to see if it can be considered a success. Compare it to the likes of LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted 2, GTA IV etc. and then we'll have a better idea of where it stands in sales.
    More than fair.

For the majority of you who won't look it up: (PS3 numbers only)(Sales in Millions)
    CoD:MW2 - 7.8
    GTAIV - 6.5
    CoD4 - 5.1
    MGS4 - 4.8
    CoD:WaW - 4.0
    FFXIII - 4.0
    GTA5 - 3.7
    Assasin's Creed - 3.7
    Resistance - 3.7
    MotorStorm - 3.5
    Assasin's Creed 2 - 3.5
    Little Big Planet - 3.4
    FIFA Soccer 10 - 3.3
    Uncharted 2 - 3.2

I think the real issue is whether it's successful enough that SE deem the series worthy of another shakeup or not. If they make a marginal profit, will they maintain this direction with the series and just do a better job budgeting the next game, or will they interpret the marginal profit as evidence that FFXV should be Final Fantasy: Oblivion?

Is that in millions? 'cause if that's the case then you can bump FFXIII above CoD4 as it's reached 5.5m (according to this thread).

Yeah, millions. I probably should have mentioned that. All the titles listed are PS3 only sales. All the titles you listed to compare it to are PS3 only titles, and 70% of FFXIII's sales are on the PS3 so I just went with that. If I made a list of cross platform games I would have to add up the PS3 and 360 numbers manually. (And FFXIII would drop on the list majorly, as most cross platform games are stronger on the 360).

vgchartz's data base seems to be down at the moment, so no new information today.

Ok, here we go with PS3 and 360 games on the same list. (Millions of copies)
    1)CoD:MW2 - 18.8
    2)GTAIV - 14.3
    3)CoD4 - 13.5
    4)Halo3 - 11
    5)CoD:WaW - 10.4
    6)Assassin's Creed - 8.6
    7)Assassin's Creed2 - 7.5 (interestingly enough PS3 and 360 sales were near identical)
    8)Guitar Hero 3 - 6.4
    9)Gears of War - 6.1
10)Resident Evil 5 - 6.0 (Sold over half a million more copies on the PS3)
11)FIFA Soccer 10 - 5.8 (good lord who buys 5 million of these every year)
    12)Gears of War2 - 5.7
    12)FFXIII - 5.5
    14)Fallout 2 - 5.2
    15)Halo ODST - 5.1
    16)Oblivion - 5.1
    17)MGS4 - 4.8

    Draw your own conclusions.

hang on is 5.5 a combined total from 2 machines? If so that is unfair on the other games....

ٍُSE aimed for 6 million sales of FFXIII and they can pull "International release" adding more content
Cut content from Final Fantasy XIII could create an additional game — Scrawl.

The list I posted is combined totals for both machines for all multi platform releases. Several of those games sold less than FFXIII on the PS3, but were higher over all when 360 sales were added.

Sounds like standard procedure to me.

Huh, no. It isn't unfair. Many of the other games on that list are actually multiplatform too, not to mention it's not SE's fault that some of the others aren't multiplatform. Other companies *choosing* not to do multiplatform releases is their own loss.

Also, Implying Oblivion sold more than Final Fantasy anynumber.

Personally, I think that any company with sense, regardless of sales, regardless of how defensive they are about their product, will still take on criticism and, even if not accepting it upfront, will still have it in their mind when creating the next version of their product. So for FFXV, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a little less linear than this game because they won't want to have to defend their product again and again.

People love superfluous things it seems.
Flo:Honey, the clock is late.Go out fix it.
    Mayor Dobe:What hours is it?
    Flo: 15:30
Mayor Dobe:Hey do you wanna to send the Estharians to Centra or what?
    Flo:Ok,let it be on 3:45

Images removed for being utterly colossal. Please use images that conform to the size limit.

    Regards,
    Big D
