Default I only own serious games

I've spent the last two days parked in front of my computer mowing away at some paper work and whenever I want to take a break I look up to my video game library and realize I don't ever purchase any games that I can just kick back and play to relax. All the games I like are very involved, and not something I can just kick back and play for a few minutes for a distraction.

    Any advice?

Flower (PSN) would be at the top of any list I'd make in this category. Osmos is a decent one on Steam. Torchlight is also pretty easy to just play little bits of.

Maybe it's time for you dabble in a new genre. Just about all of my games are pretty low intensity. Racing games and fighting games can be pretty involved and deep, but the great thing about them is that you don't have to do the career mode or story mode if you don't have the time or inclination to.

I've also just gotten Nation Red (I believe it's available on Steam as well). It plays like Asteroids, except with the great graphics and ZOMBIES!

    ^ Second that.

Also look at Klonoa for platformers or Tetris. Those things eat up alot of time imo.

I would need to see what you are classifying as "serious games" to offer a recommendation. I'm sure FFTactics is one but what else?

A lot of DS games are created for the purpose of burning time

Funny thing is I will sometimes boot up FFT and just have my party plow through a random encounter or two to relax a bit.

In my game library there are only RPGs and platformers . The RPGs are something that I would want to sit down and play for an hour minimum, and the platformers are mostly Castelvania and Mega Man, not something I play relaxed. I have Fable II, and in Fable I I enjoyed running around killing things, but I haven't really gotten to that point in the game yet.
Only other games I have are MAG (10 min que+30 min game) and Borderlands (another game focused on leveling up and acquisition's)

Basically I am looking for a game that is fun to play without interest in accomplishing anything. Which is something that usually causes me to get bored, hence my lack of library of them.

I would recommend either Portal or Mirror's Edge actually. Each has a story and definite levels, but you can easily jump in and out of Portal every now and then to run through a few levels, bonus maps or screw around with the Portal gun, and Mirror's Edge is sort of the same way as well. Both are great to play through, and still very fun to jump into and just screw around blowing off some steam.

And for something a little older you could get Doom. Running through levels as fast as you can just shooting everything that moves never really gets old.

A Grand Theft Auto game, nothing blows off steam like popping that in and going to town on everything in your way.

I've got the same problem. I'll be getting ModNation Racers as a cure.

Get a Lego game. Don't be fooled by the Lego label, they're good games.

Shinobi is always a good title to blow off some steam, everything in it bleeds, including vehicles.

I'd also recommend the Phoenix Wright series as well. You could also try to get something like Galaga or other top down shooters. If worse comes to worse, there is always solitaire on PC.

It's no lie I've played many serious games. But some obscure one falls into your lap once in a while.
