Default Final Fantasy XIII has sold 5.55 Million Copies

As of May 18th. Which means it outsold XII. It also sold faster than any previous FF game.

And yes, I know "Blah blah sales don't make the game blah blah this doesn't change the fact it's crap blah blah people are idiots blah", but I'm happy to see that despite all the complaining about it it's proved successful. I know I had fun with it and would love to see more games like it.

    >>> Well, they put the "Final Fantasy" title in the game so it does not surprise me..

The defining factor of a game's success isn't it's total sales, it is the ROI. If game sells twice as many copies but costs three times more to make it is not a success at all. I have no idea how much FFXIII took to make, but judging by how long we had to wait I'm guessing it wasn't cheep.

So in other words we just know it sold a lot of copies, not that it was a success or failure at this point.

I imagine it being the first PS3 FF and first Xbox FF that made the difference. Personally, i think a lot of people, myself included, will completley pass on the next garbage SE decides to spew at us.

I bought FFXIII because it was FF and i expected something amazing, even after reading some less than flattering reviews. I wont make that mistake again. I know a lot of people who traded FFXIII days after buying it, aparantley they were fooled too.

Default That was already mentioned last week

    on another thread...
I don't think the sales figures prove the game was successful by any means.

My saying so doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the game.

I believe the fans will buy any numbered FF game.

    It's not a bad game.

I'm just glad for Square Enix to have a hit, period.

I'm not surprised, I mean FF titles always sell well since the mid 90's. Though its legacy to the series will be interesting to see in a few years.

Certainly shows a downward trend to me.
And I don't think they are getting any cheaper to make.

FFXIII hasn't been out for very long though so it's bound to be lower.

A downward trend yes, but it still has the ability to sell a couple million from name recognition alone, especially considering the negative reaction the last three installments got from fans and the media.

It's in a sub-genre that has rapidly lost popularity both in the east and west. Also, the recent JRPG games being viewed as totally lack of evolution.

As much as I dislike FFXIII im sure there were good intentions behind some of the design choices. For that, im glad the game has sold well. I just hope Square has learned some valuable lessons from FFXIII's reception.

I prefer to compare it to other 'big name' games out there to see if it can be considered a success. Compare it to the likes of LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted 2, GTA IV etc. and then we'll have a better idea of where it stands in sales.
    Bow before the mighty Javoo!
