YouTube - John Lee Hooker - Serves Me Right To Suffer John Lee Hooker, for me, is the quintessential voice of the blues. This song is at once painful, mournful, longing, and self-deprecating. But, for all of it's gloom, it represents a certain awareness that is magical to me.

YouTube - Coheed and Cambria The Black Rainbow This song gives me chills everytime I hear it, and has on more than one occasion made my eyes sting. For me it represents a few things. I see this song as the ultimate culmination of a long journey. Coheed and Cambria is my favorite band, perhaps of all time, and I've followed them on this musical and fictional journey since 2003. For me, this song mirrors their journey to this point as musicians, but also mirrors my own transition into adulthood. This song is at once haunting and hopeful, final and portentous. The only way I've been able to verbally describe the melody is thusly: it's like watching the love of your life walk away from you and never look back, but you know it's because they have to. It kills you both, but they have to.

Ehem. Well, that was a little dramatic.
