What am I?

It's very obscure
It's not found at Ipsan's Castle, Madain Sari, Quan's Dwelling, Daguerro,Treno, the Ice Cavern, Burmecia, Gargen Roo or Fossil Roo, or any inhabited city.

It's a recurring element in most Final Fantasies, but it's utterly different in FF9, and apparently whatever they changed, it was for the worse.

It's a book.

Is it a book in FF9 that references other artifacts of information in other FF games, or one referencing people, places etc. in other FF games? Or were there once multiple books about something, but in FF9 there is only one?

I'm trying to figure out what the brothers are, haha.

EDIT: Isn't it the Strategy Guide? That Key Item you get after beating Ozma, that would fit a little.

Is it something outside the game, like the FF9 Ultimania or something? I know very little about them, so I have no idea how it would fit, but it sounds like it could be something like it. xD

Strategy Guide seems to be correct.

Most of us, Americans at most, bought the real strategy guide and found it very bad - by trying not to spoil they made a change that made it worse.

Wasn't there like some sort of difference in names with one of the guides? Like they were all Ultimanias and then there was an Omega guide or something.

If he hadn't specifically said it's a book, I'd say Playonline. Before SE turned it into a portal for FFXI it was their first attempt at an online strategy guide for FFIX.
