    Now this is quite interesting...

    Miss USA hails from powerful Shiite family - Beauty Pageants

    The winner of the Miss USA 2010 pageant is Rima Fakih, representing the state of Michigan. She is a Shi'a Muslim immigrant from Lebanon, who later moved to the United States as a child, and because of this, she makes history for being the first Muslim to win the Miss USA title. She also states that while her family is Muslim, they celebrate both Muslim and Christian traditions.

    Aside from the obvious political reasons, what does her Muslim faith have to do with a beauty pageant? If a Jew won, would the same articles be published about that faith?

    Yeah, she's hot, but the fact that she's an Arab Muslim creates a big stir, considering this time and age, when many Arab Muslims are stereotyped as evil (specifically after 9/11). The fact that she competed in this pageant and won is basically a means to combat that stereotype.

    I'm joining the 'who cares if she's Muslim, Hot damn' club.

    Really though, I hate to say this but I can't help doubt the legitamacy of her win, I wouldn't put it past these guys to give her the victor because she's Muslim for publicity.

    But thats just my pessemism talking. I"m now going to forget about that however and go back to staring creepily at her.
