Yeah. Emotions are odd. And sometimes situations are too complicated, and then you feel a bizarre mixture of things.

are the two emotions simultaneous, or does one cause the other?

usually for me at least its euphoric, the sudden burst of emotions before I feel the second one where I feel like I'm adrift on crystal clear freshwater ocean

sometimes for me melancholy triggers euphoria, and I wonder if it is because I enjoy melancholy, or if my mind is trying to chase the melancholy. I suspect both come from a common source, rather than keying off each other.

I think it's simultaneous. Say, something happens, and before it really "sinks in", you feel excited with an underlying sense of dread. I've felt that before anyway, and really you only sort out the emotions in retrospect.

I feel this often when I'm reading. I love depressing endings to books most of the time for this reason. Lolita always makes me feel like this for hours after.

Persona 3's ending gave me hope and sadness at the same time.
