Thread: Worst Ending?

  1. #1

    Default Worst Ending?

I'll start by saying out of every FF I've completed, VII has the least memorable.

In fact, VII's ending is so unremarkable I just normally turn off the game once I have the final showdown with Sephiroth.

    Your turn now.

Well, I would probably go with one of the first two but I'll go with VI. I just thought the little escape from the tower was remarkably uneventful and I didn't feel a real sense of accomplishment. Other than that, I'll go with X-2 if that counts.

I generally (always) judge an ending by how well they follow-up on or tie together all the events leading up to it rather than whether it was the most thrilling or provided the most 'twist.'

That being said, my vote for worst ending goes to VIII, a game with an ending sequence so out of left field that all but the most desperate of fanboys have conceded its tiness. Not that VIII wasn't ridiculous before that, but the (SPOILER)Time Kompression BS took things to an indefensible level.

IX comes in close second with (SPOILER)Terra, Garland, Necron and the rest of the half-baked pap that consists of the game's endgame. IX wins points, however, with the conclusion of Vivi's story. One of the strongest supporting characters and one of the strongest sub-plots in the entire series. Overall, not a completely wasteful end.

XIII's is bad, too, but only because the rest of the game is so wretched. Other than being a little bit less trite and juvenile, there's really nothing it could have realistically done to salvage the game as a whole.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but i cant possibly see how anyone could consider the ending of VI was uneventful or doesnt make you feel like you accomplished something unless you didnt get all the characters or something.

Anyway I'll go with VII, as said it was abit anticlimactic

I really don't think anyone needs to worry about spoilers in here....

Also there was nothing wrong with the trip to Terra. It was the best part of the game.

I got all the characters, weapons, armor, and accessories. Leveled in the Dino forest till most of my characters were super-high level. I just find FFVI to be as overrated of a game as most people think VII was. I just felt almost nothing for the characters, and didn't find the story to be that great (a clown bad-guy? Puh-lease) Lol Bring it on fanboys. Because VI fanboys have gotten as bad as VII ones.

Didn't mean any disrespect, but I couldn't enjoy it as much as you. I mean, what happened at the end of the game that was so fulfilling? Maybe others saw it but I didn't.

XIII... oh god XIII has the worst, if the story wasn't already making me tear my hair out from exasperation by this point, the last ditch effort to squeeze some emotion out me from the character in your party who has no development whatsoever was not a great place to start. Its followed by the game deciding to give you a happy ending by pulling out two Deus Ex Machinas on you. Both of them trully come out of nowhere and leaves you scratching your head wondering when your characters could pull crap like that and how the hell did this happen. The best part of the ending is throwing the disc out my PS3.

VIII is my next least favorite mostly cause it pretty much ignores the amount of devastation and chaos caused in the later discs and instead romps you through a happy medley of "it's all right" without actually telling you how its going to be alright. It just felt so anti-climatic.

The ending for Final Fantasy VI annoyed me. The escape from the tower and the pointless flying around in the airship.

It's FFVII for me as well. Besides showing that meteor didn't destroy the world, I felt they didn't do a good job at wrapping the story up. They didn't even show what happened to all the characters afterwards (they did in Advent Children, but not in the game itself).

    I loved VII's ending!

But I think the worst ending was VIII. I enjoy the game, but I always find the ending all over the place and boring.

As usual, I have to agree with everything WK has said. My dislike of VIII's ending may be biased due to my intense dislike of the game in general, but XIII's really was utter trash.

The brilliant part of FFVII's ending was that it left it completely ambiguous as to whether Holy wiped out humanity or not. Obviously now with AC no one will understand the years of wondering just what happened after that big flash.

The only endings I didn't like were FF10 and FF13. FF10 was mostly due to my dislike of Tidus as a character. I suppose if you were interested in the Tidus/Yuna relationship you would have liked it.

And I thought FF13 was just plain awful. I don't feel like getting into it at the moment.

Laguna is again the saving grace of FFVIII. At least for me. The flashback of him proposing to Raine and then him visiting Raine's grave... Very emotionally powerful I thought.

Its one of the few FF's where every character gets closure, the later FFs just leave most of the other character besides the main two lovebirds dangling with no happy or sad ending (Not including sequels), FFVI gives an ending for every character and feels more complete to me. Thats how I felt anyway. I can why alot of people wouldnt like the main bulk of the story but to me the ending was superbly executed and not many FF endings have lived up to it since then.
