In a practical sense of preference, black and white are as much colors as anything else, because they're both shades we can see. In a scientific sense, you're right that neither are colors. In terms of light, white is the combination of all colors (think of light going through a prism), and black is the absence.

I wish Mozilla would stop telling me I've spelt 'favourite' and 'colour' wrong when I HAVEN'T. All of YOU are spelling them wrong.
