Thumbs Down So it's finally happened

Yes, it happens to us all at some point. My PS1 memory card has ceased functioning, and I am now forced to use an emulator to play FF7.
I downloaded e p s x e (why is it coming out PSOnee when I type out the name properly??) but I am having a rather difficult time getting the game to run properly. It either lags terribly when entering battles, during scene changes, and subtle sounds do not play, e.g. Aeris's footsteps in the opening sequence, the sounds of the trains, etc.

Could someone please help me set up the configuration?

    I have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop with a Core 2 duo processor, P8600 @ 2.40 GHz, 4gigs ram. Screen resolution 1366x768.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
