    ZOMG! TEARING up my heart

No, this is not a thread about the tearing of 'N Sync's hearts, but rather a tearing of mine (and other things). You see, I'd been looking forward to sitting down and playing FFXIII for the first time today. I have the entire day off, so things couldn't be better, really. But of course they could, 'cause as soon as the intro movie started playing the screen started tearing! Some "WTF"s flew out of my mouth, but I still hoped it was just a glitch of some kind, so I continued playing for a little bit. But no, they were not glitches, and they kept appearing all the friggin' time.

So, apparently I have to come to terms with the fact that FFXIII won't play on my SDTV - at least not properly. Yes I know! I still have an SDTV, but it's worked totally fine up until now, and it's not like I have the money to go out and buy an HDTV! So, I guess I have to wait and play FFXIII until I get a hold of a HDTV

Anyway, to make a topic out of this rant; have you had any technical problems with FFXIII?

My only problem was that some of the words were too small.
Flo:Honey, the clock is late.Go out fix it.
    Mayor Dobe:What hours is it?
    Flo: 15:30
Mayor Dobe:Hey do you wanna to send the Estharians to Centra or what?
    Flo:Ok,let it be on 3:45

Which is a problem of the HD consoles in general because they forget some of us still use SD >_>

That said, no. However, I was reading a Final Fantasy review today saying that the 360 port was sloppy in the graphics department, or something to that effect. So, perhaps you're using a 360? I used the PS3 version. If so, that would explain it

No problems really. Some text was a little difficult to read because we played it on an ancient TV with horrible definition. It's not an ordinary SDTV, it's really bad. Like, my boyfriend has had to return a game because it was unplayable if you couldn't read. The game was still stunning though. I'd like to see it on an HDTV someday.

Nope, I don't own a 360 - it's on the PS3.. and my TV is not that old. Guess I'm just unlucky

Weird! I bought my TV in 2001 and it works just fine with it. Sure, everything is small, but there's nothing wrong with the picture.

It only plays on 720p, 1080i, and 1080p which are all HD formats. Your TV is probably something like 576i because you're in the PAL region. Some PS3 and Xbox games will play 480p and 576i, but this particular one does not. An upgrade to an HDTV is necessary for correct display.

I have actually had technical problems before because I was playing Assassin's Creed on the wrong format. The colors were all ghetto and green. Then I just switched the format display for my XBOX 360 and it worked fine.

Most games actually play on SD TVs even if they say they only use 720p or higher. THe PS3 would downscale them to a workable resolution, unless something is horribly wrong.

I bought an HDTV because I couldn't stand how bad games looked on my old SDTV. Text and numbers were completely unreadable and everything looked terrible. HDTVs are pretty cheap these days; you can find premium brands for a few hundred bucks.

I had no problems on my SDTV. But maybe because the TV was made in America and America produces the finest products from the finest work force in the World!

Yeah, I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my other PS3 games, and Wii games as well. I guess FFXIII is just "extra special" in that way.

Well, now I either have to play the game at my parents' house (which is never gonna happen), or buy an HDTV at one point. Le sigh

Maybe you can try force the game to play at whatever SDtv is. I recall that in the PS3 visual settings, you can set the resolution from auto to a specific one. That's why people say they can play 720p games at 1080p - they just changed that setting.

I have no clue why your PS3 would be doing something silly like this or whether it's the problem, but maybe give it a try.

I'll try and look into it during the weekend. Thanks
