There's also the fact that at fourteen he's always relied on adults for everything. It makes sense to go along with the toughest adult he knows for survival! So I guess it's also partly mommy-replacement, just not so much the motherly love part.

That's just a guess. He could be as old as sixteen! I'm sure if he was too young for puberty they would have hired a different voice actor.

Hope is 14. The other chararcters are: Lightning 21, Sazh 40, Snow 21, Fang 21 (+ 500), Vanille 19 (+ 500), Serah 18.

While I thought there was some interaction between Lightning and Hope, I don't think they become a couple... at least not yet. Maybe 5-10 years after the game's events. I'd still see Hope and Vanille as a more likely couple if it wasn't for (SPOILER)Vanille being crystallized.
