When it's long enough that your moustache tickles your upper lip (assuming moustache and beard are of roughly the same length), you have a beard.

I have enough beard growth after a week to have a thick stubble beard. I could trim it in now in fact. As for style I like a chinstrap with moustache it suits me. I used to have a Vandyke for like 3 years or so then shaved it all off. Does anyone else do no shave november?

In any situation, beard growing contest...so long as the rules allow for:

Keeping the beard tidy and presentable
Styling the beard in to a neat manner
Trimming the beard if we so wish

then I am in because well in my line of work where I deal with the public I don't want to look like a hobo so I will probably have to keep it tidy, presentable and style it (as a bare bones min my boss will expect that) and trim it because I don't like my beard being long but I like it getting thick. Paul has seen the glory of my beard growing abilities lol
