ML93 Sociology and Criminology: Critical Criminology explores the background to, and recent developments in, criminology, social justice and human rights. It considers the causes and contexts for crime, deviance and disorder in society within Britain, Ireland, Europe and across the world, examining how the law is constructed, enforced and administered. The modern world is complex and changing rapidly. The Sociology course will provide you with a thorough grounding in sociological theory and methods, allowing you to investigate social, cultural and political change in British, European and what have been called 'Third World' societies. You will have a wide choice allowing you to specialise in many different aspects of the contemporary social world: from popular protest to sport; global tourism to child labour; youth dance culture to racism and gender inequalities; from poverty to contemporary film, to the Peace Process in Northern Ireland.

Intro to Database Systems, Linux and Windows (yeah, I know... ), Intro to Greek and Roman History and Intro to Ancient and Medieval Europe.

Basically, my comp sci courses are going to be a snooze fest. The gen eds should be reasonably interesting and easy enough, since they're freshman level. I'll be working in between some of my courses, but I'll only have one class on Friday with the whole afternoon being to myself. So, that's pretty cool.

That's cool, Stu! I'm half hoping that my hours at work will get cut down so I don't work on Fridays, but I kind of don't because I want the money. XD If I get my full schedule, I'll be working from 1-6 on MWF, since I only have that one class in the morning.

I kind of want to leave myself some time so I can join some clubs, but I guess working is probably more important.

My first class is on Monday, and it's Phonetics, Phonology and Morphology. I''ve just started studying English at uni, and it's going to be my first day of school in like three years. It's going to be interesting to say the least xD

This past week has been all about meeting all my new class mates, lots of freshman intro stuff and LOTS of drinking pretty much non-stop. I can't really wrap my head around the fact that I have to do homework tomorrow.

I hope you have really good teachers for these. The biggest problem with History courses is the teachers are usually bad. I've gotten pretty lucky so far in that all of my teachers have been pretty wonderful. One of them explained the lecture by pretending to be a Transformer.

I already started and I'm finding it hard to care and actually try this semester. Feels like I've been going to school forever and it's not really helping me do nothing, but feel lazy and like a free loader.

I am taking 2 online classes this semester (Hopefully. they started on the 24th but the university cashier and I had a battle. Monday is the last possible day to register and hopefully my registration will go through, then! It'll be late, but better late than never!) Gender and Communication and Crime & Delinquency.

    SOCI 123: Crime and Delinquency

This course is an introduction to the sociological study of crime. This course concentrates on the social facts of crime, such as the criminal justice system and the structure of economic inequality, as well as social processes, such as the development of criminal identities through interactions with criminals. We also discuss the environments in which people are embedded, with particular attention to the disruptive settings of the American urban underclass. Finally, we discuss several important sociological theories concerning crime and their implications for public policy.

COMM 224: Introduction to Gender and Communication

Gender is both personal and social. It is personal because each of us is a gendered person whose thoughts, feelings, actions, goals, and experiences reflect and enact the gender identity that we individually adopt. Gender is also social, because the meanings of masculinity and femininity are socially constructed, reproduced, and changed. In this class we will explore both the personal and social dimensions of gender, communication, and culture, and how all three interact in our lives. We will also examine how culture sculpts gender and communication; how gender shapes communication and culture; and how communication creates, reproduces, sustains, and sometimes challenges and changes the meaning of gender and, with that, cultural structures and practices.

EDIT: Hey, just wondering... has anyone ever tried renting their books as opposed to buying? I can both of my books for the price of ONE through BookRenter, but I don't want to get burned. What do y'all think?

    Signature by rubah. I think.

I've started reading some of the books so far. I'm reading The Crazy Iris right now. Hiroshima literature is gorgeous, but so, so, so disturbing. But isn't that part of beauty?
Is Kovic's Born on the Fourth of July on your list, as well? That book made me cry. It's more of an after-the-fact memoir, but still immensely important to understanding Vietnam.

For the first time since I was 5, I'm not starting school. It's odd.

The first class I had (last Monday) was Federal Income Tax, which is kinda boring, but I like the professor. My most interesting class is Evidence.

I like my schedule this semester as I don't have classes Wednesday and Friday.

My first class was one of my music courses, Sight Singing and Dictation. It's really not as much singing as I thought it would be, so I'm pretty happy with that. It's a nice class, I like my professor.
