    Default Gaming tattoos

I know if I ever were to get a tattoo, it would have to be something from a video game. That way I know it wouldn't be cliched, mass produced and would actually be some sort of identity to me as well, besides being an awesome tattoo in itself, that is. A tattoo from a movie would be great as well, but they're not that easy to depict in a tattoo really, and I'm not much of a quote hag, so I don't want any text. Hurr, back to gaming!

Topic 1: What gaming tattoo would you get?

Topic 2: Help me find something to ink. For reference, I wouldn't mind getting a tattoo from one of these games:

Mario series (1 to super mario 64)
Zelda series (Alttp, OoT and MM)
    Resident Evil
    Silent Hill
    Clock Tower
    Megaman
    Final Fantasy (6,7,8,9,10)
    Various NES games
    Various SNES games

I'm not looking for something gigantic, like Link riding on Epona while slaying Ganon. The more discreet the better really, like a coin block from super mario. Tattooing the actual mask from Majora's mask would be great, but I'm too worried that the tattoo artist would smurf it up. It needs the exact correct colouring as well. As for location, I'll probably get it on my arm.

From Resident Evil nothing comes to mind, except perhaps the umbrella symbol.

    Silent Hill.. hmm, I'm blank!

Megaman is easy, it'd have to be dr wily in his spaceship or just plain Megaman.

Triforce, I suppose, is an obvious one you might want to consider. Or how about a NES and SNES controller?

As for me, I don't know what I'd get. Maybe the same tattoo Jin from Tekken has on his arm? Like this guy.

Hmm, looks like regular old tribal to me!

Triforce might be a bit standard, and I'd have to have it on my fist, wouldn't I?

I wish I hadn't pitched this idea to a friend of mine. I told her having the dragons from Bubble Bobble would be cool, and now she says she's getting it done. Awesome tattoo that.

This one's cute and simple. The picture close up of his skin texture is kinda nasty though.

If I ever got a tattoo, it would be something small, and definitely a game

One I'd be leaning towards would be a Pin from TWEWY
    the main pin

Leo Pin (I'm also a Leo)

Excalibur Pin (cause of the game and I love swords and medieval and the story of king arthur and etc.)

or Velocity Tackle (just cause it looks cool)

The final option would eventually to get my 6 favorite pins, under the game symbol pin, kinda like such
    (SPOILER)

    I'm gonna be 'that' guy...

If I ever got a tattoo... wait... that would never happen. I seriously considered getting a tattoo when I was just a tad younger. I'm so grateful that I never followed through. Get a piercing or something. At least you can take it out later.

It will be difficult to get a completely timeless tattoo especially of gaming. Sure, everyone might know about the Triforce or 1-up, but attitudes about those things can change or be forgotten as much as you may think they will be forever relevant.

There's a chance you may never regret the tattoo, but if you do, it'll be a pain in the ass taking it back. If you're gonna do it at least do it out of sight so that you can very very easily cover it up.

That way I know it wouldn't be cliched, mass produced
Seriously? And then you go on to list the most visible gaming franchises of the last several generations. Getting anything from those games will be cliché and mass produced. I've seen dozens of pictures of firggin' Triforces tattooed onto people. You aren't an original and will not be for getting a gaming tattoo.

As gaming become more mainstream it will be no different than having something from Star Wars tattooed on you. Think about a store like Hot Topic. What once would've defined a generation is now a silly T-shirt. Ten year-old kids are wearing Hot Topic shirts with 80s crap plastered on them to be ironically retro or something. These things have lost their meaning and are purely silly.

Keep these things in mind before you go get a "clever" tattoo of some video game character.

And if you think you're being unique in your tattoo choice just try to Google anything you come up with and I'll be surprised if you don't find an inked representation somewhere.

Remember when tribal tattoos were cool and fresh? Now every douchebag has one on his bicep. They are actually a mark of you being and idiot at the time that was cool. There seems to be quite the surge of gamers getting nerdy tattoos... once again.. you're not being unique.

When you consider getting one consider having permanently bleached hair (circa 1996), a tribal around your arm, barbed wire around the other arm, and a yin-yang somewhere on your body. Those didn't stay cool and this won't either.

If I was going to do it I would want something that wouldn't necessarily look game inspired to a non-gamer, but would be recognizable to people who do play video games. Something like a coin from Mario or a ring from Sonic.

Yearg did raise some valid points, though I wouldn't let that kill the idea. Just whatever you do don't put it in a place where it could be seen during a job interview!

    Other ideas:
    - Save points. FF7 in particular would probably appear as a random piece of abstract art to most, and a clever homage to fans.
    - Items from Zelda. Something like the Ocarina from OoT, or maybe a bottle with a fairy in it
    - Sonic spinning in a ball. Would just look like an abstract blue stylized ball to most. Maybe have a yellow/orange one training behind. (I just realized sonic isn't on your list. You suck)
    - Energy pelet from Mega Man.
    - The little item pouch icon that appears beside items in your inventory in just about every FF game.

Or if you really want to be distinct and ensure it isn't mass produced you could always tattoo your entire forearm as a mega man buster.

EDIT: Great, I've been looking up game tattoo images on Google and now I want one. Haven't seen any of my ideas though.

Yes, you are indeed being 'that guy,' Yeargdribble.

This is all my fault though, I should've mentioned in the first post that I'm not interested in any lectures, or this thread turning into a thread about whether getting a tattoo in general is a good thing or not. The topic for this thread is strictly ideas on what gaming tattoos might be cool.

I am however going to comment on the rest of your post, but I'll let you know right away that I'm not interested in continuing this discussion beyond that. Don't expect a reply if you reply to this post. You're more likely to get one if you PM me or start a whole new thread completely.

I'm 24 years old, I've seen fashions come and go, I'm not going to get a tattoo of anything that is considered cool right now. I also know that there is something called job interviews, I'm not going to get a tattoo that can't be covered by a t-shirt. I've already used google as well, thankyouverymuch. The more I see something on there, the less inclined I am to get it inked on me.

I agree, I don't want a triforce or a 1-up. I do think they are both timeless though, or at least I think they have 60 more years in them. I don't need everyone around me to know what my tattoo means anyway. It's the few people who does know what they mean that matters.

Anything from these games will be cliched? Anything? I disagree completely. If you can't find anything beyond a 1 up, a triforce or sephiroth wielding a sword, you lack imagination. There are definitely cliched tattoos in Mario, Zelda and Final Fantasy, but again, those are the ones I want to avoid. My goal isn't to be the only one in the entire world with a tattoo, but I would like it to be somewhat unique, which I know that pretty much any gaming tattoo will be amongst my friends. (not that I intend to get just any gaming tattoo) Things that are somewhat rare to find online are going to be even more rare in real life, I know how these things work, so I really don't think this is going to be much of an issue.

For the record, I haven't seen a single person in my whole life with a gaming tattoo.
